Giving back to my community is valuable in itself, and helping others and seeing how happy they are is very rewarding. It is a win win situation. This is something I have my parents to be thankful for teaching me. They have always set a good example of how important it is to give back and pay it forward to the community. When I volunteer I feel good because I’m helping others, and the people I help feel good because they are getting help. That is the best part about it. Supporting my community is very important to me. It’s important for me to make an investment in my community and the people who live it. I have volunteered at my church during the summer at our Vacation Bible School. There I had the opportunity to work with the young kids and run the outdoor session of the program. Teaching the young kids, getting them involved and being a positive role model and seeing them have fun and learn was a great experience. As a member of The Westtown Presbyterian Church, I help out during the year at all our annual fundraisers we hold for the church, such as dinners and barbeques, and fall and spring clean ups. Working together with everyone for the benefit of the church helps make everything run smoothly. I also took part in the 30-hour famine in with our youth group. It is a project from the World Vision's 30 Hour Famine to fight the hunger in poor communities through out the world. We spent 30 hours of not eating. It was great to know that the time I spent not eating, and the money that we raised was going to benefit those that were less fortunate. I believe that if we all did something to help those in need, we would have a better and safer community and a greater sense of accomplishment.
