The issue of sex offenders is one of the most complexes to be found within the law enforcement community. Very few criminal demographics evoke the same amount of rage and disgust as sex offenders, and that fact combined with their traditionally sky high recidivism rate puts sex offenders in a criminal category all their own. It is clear that sex offenders need to be dealt with in a way that is very different from other forms of criminals. Some authorities have even publicly voiced the idea of sterilizing sex offenders. With radical ideas such as this floating around and even gaining traction, it is clear that more research needs to be done regarding sex offenders specifically to figure out a way to limit the crime as much

Often times sex offenders location on the registry may be incorrect or community notification fail reach the community in which the offender resides. The recent concern with sex offender registry has been that punishments have been overboard and based on inaccurate measures of who the offender is. Thomas Norris CJ210-08 Criminal Investigation Unit 2 Seminar The investigation of felonious injuries and criminal homicides can be the most important, yet difficult responsibility assigned to the police investigator. First, these crimes are viewed as among the most serious offenses committed in our society. The seriousness is reflected in all state statutes, which impose severe penalties for acts resulting in the grave bodily injury or death of a human being (McGraw-Hill, 2002). Second, in the beginning stages of the investigation, the inability to identify the decedent, for example, greatly complicates the investigative process and prevents it from moving forward. Questions such as who was the victim's enemies, and who would benefit most

In the title of this paper, it is conjectured that victims of sexual assault are usually the prime witnesses in prosecution proceedings for these types of crime. The reason for this is that most sexual assaults are perpetrated in private by someone already known to the victim. What is more, often there is no forensic evidence available and so victims of sexual assault are not only the prime witnesses in prosecution proceedings for these types of crime but, often, the only evidence that a crime has taken place at all . This can place real burden on sexual assault victims during the trial stage of the prosecution. For one thing, the victim must relive the traumatic events in question, by explaining them to the court, jury and defence barrister.

The Unseen Witness: DNA, Rape and Convictions When a crime such as sexual assault is committed, one of the greatest sources of trace evidence is the victim themselves. Because of the close and personal nature of this crime, the victim is usually law enforcement’s first and best clue to who commit such an act. In criminal sexual cases the offender's DNA may be left on the victim's body, their clothing or at the crime scene. This DNA can be obtained from many different sources and areas on the victim. The community wants the police to PREVENT crime -- to stop criminals before they get a chance to do harm -- and not just wait around for a crime to take place and then try to solve it. (Even if they do solve it, it would still be better if it had never happened.) So inner-city cops "stop and frisk" bad-looking kids, suspicious characters, etc. 1) If the search of the suspects reveals nothing (no weapons, drugs, burglary tools, stolen goods, etc.
