it should fit the crime), these registries should be discontinued. The rapists might deserve a lifetime of social censure, but must the person who peed in a public place also undergo a similar fate? Sex offender now refers to a class of people virtually without rights and whom it is difficult to defend as citizens deserving respect. I believe that many aspects of the current approach to sex offenders seriously undermine justice and make our society less compatible with parents who feel their children are in danger with recovering offenders. One could argue that sex offender registries help parents see if there are any registered sex offenders that live near them.
Research Paper Thesis and Outline Thesis: Although sex trafficking is a serious issue in United States, many parties are still ignorant and unaware of the consequences that it might bring to society. Therefore, identifying the root problems and solutions of sex trafficking should be encouraged to reduce the occurrence and to reinforce individual rights. Outline: * One of the major problems of sex trafficking in society is the degradation of the basic human rights. “Every stage of the trafficking process can involve physical, sexual and psychological abuse and violence, deprivation and torture, the forced use of substances, manipulation, economic exploitation and abusive working and living conditions.” (United Nation) It violates
BULLIES VS. DICTATORS Kasey Simas ENG 121: English Composition I Instructor Lee Kinkade October 22, 2012 BULLIES VS. DICTATORS Have you ever felt powerless to stop the harassment of another? Dictators and bullies thrive off of stripping others of their freedom. Bullies may seem less treacherous, though there are many similarities between the two. There is a fine line between bullies and dictators. While the scope of their victims may vary, their characteristics are similar in that they both use manipulation and intimidation and compel their victims to do their will.
Looking for new ways to save money in the midst of persistent societal needs like privatization of intuitions. This also has prompting many state and federal bureaucrats to reconsider how they punish their criminals. Forcing them to look for creative ways to trim down the heavy burden that stringent sentencing laws and an excess increase in incarceration that has lead to increased taxes on taxpayers. Unfortunately, officials like to tout that crime rate falls because tough sentences are given; even when demography or other factors may point to another reason, they feel the tough sentences are demanded by the local citizens to solve the problem. Prison is an excellent way to keep dangerous criminals off the streets, but the more people you lock up, the less dangerous each extra prisoner is likely to be.
Once the decision on sentence has been made, adequate community protection has to be enacted, either through punishment, rehabilitation or a combination of the two. Sexual offending is regularly considered as very different from other types of offending and sex offenders are often depicted as having a “special place in contemporary society’s secular demonology”. All branches of the media, including tabloid and broadsheet press depict sex offenders as fiends, monsters and beasts who should be kept away from the rest of society. Even within the criminal population, sex offenders are treated as the worst type of
Nowadays, horrifying crimes are being committed by criminals and they are being punished for it. It has been believed that behind every crime there is a reason, which usually gets neglected. In the world of justice, reasons doesn’t matter, only thing that matters is whoever did the crime has to be punished and everyone should get justice. From the articles “How people turn monstrous” by Mark Buchanan and “Revisiting the Stanford prison experiment” by Philip G. Zimbardo, which means human behavior is forceful. The good people always get forced inherently into the bad situation.
Islamic people were looked at as terrorists by many people because of the attacks that happened that day. We are more afraid of what we do not understand, but stubborn to educate ourselves when it comes to difference. As a professional in the criminal justice field, one must always act professional and fair. This can all be corrected by training, supervision, and daily interaction between people of different ethnicity. We all have a tendency to stereotype a person because they are different a different color, come from a different area, and because they may believe in different practices than we do.
Cohen explains how the use of folk devils create a ‘moral panic’ where now society becomes frightened by these ‘folk devils’ and label male individuals according to this stereotype, thus resulting in different treatment. This causes deviancy amplification where the more males are portrayed as deviant individuals, the more deviant behaviour they carry out as it is expected of them anyway and there is a self fulfilling prophecy: ‘living out their label’ as proposed by Becker. In addition the chivalry thesis comes into play as females are therefore seen as ‘not as bad’ in society, including by the police, so if they were to carry out criminal activity the criminal justice system may be more lenient towards them as they have no stigma attached. This reinforces the assumption that male’s are the ‘folk devils’ as it would therefore reveal men to have higher crime statistic rates. For example according to the ministry of justice (2009) it has been found that women are more likely to receive a caution than prosecution: the figure for females was 49% in 2007 compared to the male caution figure of 30%.
According to thefreedictionary.com, the “generic term for all persons convicted of crimes involving sex, including rape, molestation, sexual harassment and pornography production or distribution” is a sex offender. Some people may argue about the punishment offenders receive and think it is not enough. Just throwing them in jail does not fill up justice. These horrible people deserve more punishment then they are given. Maybe perhaps castration would heal the broken hearts of families and children?
People that are targeted are usually are trafficked and exploited through force, coercion, deception, intimidation, feigned love, isolation, and also threats in order to provide a profit for their captor; it’s a terribly sad thing that human beings could do this to one another. Fortunately the fight against human trafficking is in full force and there are many organizations that offer help and guidance on human trafficking to anyone that might be involved or interested in learning
