Hannetjie hit him in the head several times with a "Knobkerrie" because of his smart mouth and stripped the entire span of meal privileges for three days. This infuriated Brille and he promised his comrades he would steal them some food. When that didn’t work and it became clear that they were not going to disperse, at around 12:24 pm 77 National Guard members fired 67 rounds from M1 Garand rifles into the croud killing 4 and wounding 9 others, thus violently ending the protests. What’s even worse is that two of the students killed had not even been involved in the protest they were just walking to class and had gotten caught in the crossfire. This had a major impact on other campuses and nation wide. It caused an estimated 450 other campuses to stop protesting worldwide and it also got world wide press, their was even a song written about it. it was a tragic event that happened to people who only stand up against what they believed was wrong and tried to make a
Even though he begins to show signs of tension at 180 volts, the experimenter was able to convince Mr. Prozi to continue. In this instance, the teacher was concerned with his own culpability if something were to happen to the learner. “I mean, who’s going to take responsibility if anything happens to that gentleman?” Prozi questioned (697). After several reassurances from the experimenter that all responsibility for the learner’s well-being was on the experimenter, Mr. Prozi reluctantly continued with the shocks. Even after the learner refused to answer the questions or worse, showed no signs of a response to the questions or the shocks, Prozi continued with his orders.
The Balance of Objection and Respect While in jail, Martin Luther King Jr. wrote the letter commonly referred to as the “Letter from Birmingham Jail” as a response to a letter addressed to him earlier from the Clergymen of Alabama in order to refute many of their claims while also appealing to his neutral white audience. Through his use of parallelism, complex periodic sentences and Biblical allusions, MLK Jr. establishes his credibility to the Clergymen as well as the “white moderate” and illustrates to them the necessity of his protest while maintaining a respectful tone that is consistent with peaceful ideology. Although the letter is written in a non-violent tone, MLK’s use of parallelism and repetition throughout the letter demonstrates
In the experiment, there was one prisoner in particular that wished to withdraw. The prisoner started believing that this was no longer an experiment but was stuck in a real prison. He also believed that the other inmates would verbalize their distaste and call him a traitor for leaving. The prisoner cried but when told that he was in an experiment and could definitely leave if he chose to, he froze. And, he did so because upon realizing he was free to do as he pleased, it was as if a veil had been removed from his sight and he seemed to break character, the role he was playing.
Hunger A Gone Novel By Niel Lindsay-Roman [pic] Summary: Months ago in the small town of Perdido Beach, California, everybody over the age of 14 disappeared, and a barrier appears in cutting off the town with the rest of the world completely. The first couple week’s kids go chaotic, raiding local stores for food when they wanted, bullies picking random fights, and just basically doing whatever they wanted. A lot of kids realized they needed some authority if they were going to survive, so they elected Sam Temple, one of the two 15 year olds on Perdido Beach and one of the many kids developing super-natural powers (Sam can shoot green light rays from his palms that incinerate anything it touches). Most of the food from
Hitler tried to seize power in Munich, Bavaria where over two thousand men gathered. Along the course of the two days, sixteen Nazis and four policemen were killed. Hitler also suffered a broken and dislocated arm in melee. All though it was resisted and put down by the police, Hitler proclaimed a resolution. Only a few days before the putsch began, Hitler promised Lossow that he would not attempt it.
A Series of Unfortunate Events It has been almost a year since a mentally ill youth took the life of twenty innocent children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut. Last week, the latest news reported a military man, who went on a shooting rampage in Texas at Fort Hood. Other memorable tragedies such as the murders at the premiere of The Dark Knight Rises movie in Aurora, the Columbine high school massacre, or even the Virginia Tech massacre bring back to light a highly debated issue, guns and who should possess them. Despite these tragedies, deep division has kept new gun safety laws from passing in congress. A stricter mental and criminal background check system should be put in place before gun purchase to
But today there was only one person in the class- and it wasn’t the teacher that didn't participate in my torment. After sitting through the period, I was forced to confide in an adult that kindly handled the situation. Then, so began the reference of myself as a snitch. A lot of the time I was in pain, whether physically from my stomach disorder or mentally from living in a state of constant anxiety, just waiting for the next insult to come flying at me. However, I did it.
A 20 year-old man from Maine used the online sex offender registry to locate and kill two registered sex offenders in May 2006. According to Bain, “In Washington State a man shot and killed two level three sex offenders”. Sex offenders are classified in different levels which are varying degrees of their sexual pervasive nature. A level three offender named Xavier Morris told Newsday that he was forced to move twice since he was released from prison. The main concern should be to protect children and women from sex offenders, not protecting sex offender names.
