You have a visual/graphic learning style. Recalling pictures, diagrams, or slideshows while taking a test means you visually learned the material. Learning by sight is probably one of the most common learning styles. Educators often use visual aids to teach, because students often understand the material better. Being able to see what has been being talked about in the class all week, makes learning easier for a visual learner.
This one fact shows evidence that David has BICS (Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills) for both languages, but surprisingly little to no CALP (Cognitive Academic Learning Proficiency) in Spanish as well as English not only for himself – but his parents as well. The NLL teacher, regular education teacher, and I (his student teacher) have speculated whether his parents have confused the NLL program to a Spanish emersion program. In addition to the NLL program at Pillsbury, David’s regular education teacher has done many things to adapt the curriculum in the classroom to fit the needs of the Spanish-speaking students. The morning meeting (focusing on the calendar, morning message, and counting on the 100’s number chart) is primarily done in English with some Spanish. The Spanish portions include the days of the week, the months of the year, and counting by 10’s to 100.
These mostly industrialized cities had an enormous need for children to learn English. Attending school year-round was necessary for students to learn the English language and it was helpful for parents, both of whom often worked. This contrasted greatly to the rural one room school houses of this time where most of the schooling took place during the winter when the children were not needed to work the farms (Hermansen, 1971, p.9). As education became more of a priority for society “progressive reformers championed compulsory attendance laws while extending the abbreviated rural-driven short hours and days into a longer school day and year” (Cuban, 2008,p. 241).
I enjoyed this course because it helped me to identify several races. I think that this type of course needs to be taught the younger generation in grammar ages. The students are taught how to read and write, calculate mathematical equations and learn about our history. However, not much is taught in the form of teaching them about equality and to destroy prejudicial indifferences. This type of course, should also continue in junior high as well as high school.
The middle school students increased their abilities to locate main ideas when challenged with exercises in the lesson cycle. The lesson cycle was effective because it gave students practice with text structures, signal words, and graphic organizers (Montelongo, Herter, Ansaldo, & Hatter, 2010). The students also confirmed their comprehension through the correct rewriting of the given text. The authors conclude the study by acknowledging that further study is needed in order to evaluate the quality of expository writing and its effectiveness on comprehension. Although there are good resources in place to nurture and challenge students in our schools, the methods of assessment for placement are out-dated. The Nagleri and the Iowa Test of Basic Skills are used, along with EOG scores for grade 3 and above and prerequisite course grades for high school. There is little staff development in gifted education, but each of our AIG teachers are fully certified. In both the K-2 nurturing program and the grades 3-8 content replacement, students use critical thinking skills and real life applications of these
During the high school careers of many young Ontario students, they will be faced with a wide variety of texts of different beliefs, cultures and themes. While marvelous writers exist in all cultures, Ontario students should only study Canadian writers in order for them to become accustomed to their culture. By solely studying Canadian literature in a grade 12 course, Ontario students can better focus on their own Canadian culture, replace the archaic novels currently being read, and value the diversity that being a Canadian means. Students in Ontario taking an English course should only study Canadian literature because they are currently infested by the American culture surrounding them. There is a historical attachment to this issue as Canadians have always been a “branch plant” of another country, namely England and France.

Include possible resources, such as other colleagues, professional journals and/or organizations, or professional development. Many of my questions and hesitations regarding the concept of assessments have already been discussed and answered by the required excerpts from Educational psychology: Windows on classrooms that I read this week. I found the excerpts to be informative as well as extremely motivating. While I believe myself to be a dedicated, hard-working, and knowledgeable educator, I do rely on many factors to get me through the school year in regard to questions and concerns I may have.
I totally agree. High school teachers tend to go easy on their students, try to pass them but not help them with their future. I think that is one of the reasons for such a high dropout rate in college. And most of my friends end up in preparation courses for calculus and composition. More and more computer based lessons have been given to high school students.
Its main elements consist of the following: half-day pre-kindergarten instruction, full day kindergarten instruction, eight week reading assessments, one-on-one reading tutors, a family support team, a program facilitator, a commitment to teamwork, and special education concerns. Since adolescent reading is the focus, only the elements affecting it will be discussed. The eight week reading assessments allow regrouping of students who have increased enough that they may move up to the next level. Assessment also helps identify students who require tutoring. There is not a specific assessment used in SFA.
