Case Study: Google’s employee motivation Introduction Google Inc. was founded in 1998 by Sergey Brin and Larry Page. As stated on their corporate website, “Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.” In 2001, Eric Schmidt, former CEO at Novell Inc. became the Chief Executive Officer at Google. Brin, Page, and Schmidt continue the day-to-day operations at Google. Nowadays, Google has leveraged the power of organizational behavior to attract and motivate talented employees who want to make a difference in the Internet world. Therefore, Google has become a powerhouse on the Internet, but its real power comes from applying organizational behavior theories and practices. More than ever, organizations are relying on organizational behavior knowledge to remain competitive. For instance, this paper focus on Google’s engaged workforce through exciting work opportunities, supportive team dynamics, and a cool workplace. These attract talented people through its strong culture, ethical values, and an environment that supports creativity and a learning organization. These will be explained by applying several motivation theories. Finally, this paper’s ultimate goal is to find out Google’s successful factors in motivation side. We will start the analysis by asking following questions: Why Google’s staff motivation is extremely higher than others? How Google maintains innovation among their staff? Methodology The analyzing methodology used in this case study is consistent with those management theories and models that previously described before, enabling appropriate conclusions to be drawn. It seems most appropriate that when analyzing the organizational behavior of Google, it can be done by looking at how the culture is conducted.
