How 9/11 and The Patriot Act affected America What happened on September 11, 2001, will never be forgotten and is now considered one of the worst terrorism tragedies in American history. Consequently, it had made Americans grow closer together in the wake of the tragedy. Ever since the beginning, America has faced many significant changes, but ever since the atrocity of 9/11, America has made many changes that made an impact to most Americans. For instance, the events of 9/11 may have had a greater impact on our economy, but it also affected the lives of ordinary Americans. In this paper we will examine the impact of 9/11 on Americans and the U.S. economy and why the U.S. responded to the terrorism by enacting the USA Patriot act to “protect” America, which had become a big controversial issue to Americans.
All this demonstrates how sinister1 terrorism is in American society. This paper will explain background data on anarchy/terrorism, case studies including the Oklahoma bombing, and the government’s reaction toward terrorism. A number of terrorist attacks in the 1990s have brought the fear to the public, giving rise to vulnerability2 between many Americans. Most terrorist incidents in the United States have been bombing attacks, involving detonated and undetonated explosive devices, tear gas and pipe and fire bombs. The effects of terrorism can cause loss of life and injuries to property damage and disruptions in services such as electricity, water supply, public transportation and communications.
Not only did the attacks leave behind sheer devastation it left behind lots of speculation between what really happened that day. People started to poke holes in what was being shown on the news and what the government was leading the public to believe was the truth. With things not adding up with what they were telling us conspiracy theories began to develop. In this extended project I’m going to explore the main conspiracy theories behind 911 and answer the question were the attacks of 9ll really a conspiracy theory? What is a conspiracy theory?
Most people have become more aware of terrorism, since September 11th 2001, on this date members of the al-Qaeda terrorist group managed to hijack American Airlines Flight 11 and drive it into the World Trade Center, located in New York City. The attack caused 2,819 people to die; some were working in the towers, some were just very unlucky and happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and also some of the emergency personnel died that day trying to rescue others (www.nymag.com). There were a few other attacks that day, each one killing more innocent people. These horrible acts of terrorism caused the United States to go into panic mode. Americans evacuated buildings, shut down airports, and rushed to see their loved ones because they were terrified of what might happen next .
In any form, terrorism sends a message. Terrorists, governments, and the media see the function, roles and responsibilities of the media when covering terrorists’ events from differing and often competing perspectives. Such perspectives drive behavior during terrorist incidents, often resulting in both tactical and strategic gains to the terrorist operation and overall terrorist cause. The challenge to both the governmental and press communities is to understand the dynamics of terrorist enterprise and to develop policy options designed to serve the interests of government, the media, and the society. Terrorists must have publicity in some form if they are to gain attention, inspire fear and respect, and secure favorable understanding of their cause, if not their act.
Ever since September 11th, there has been poor judgment and treatment toward people of Middle Eastern descent. From hate crimes and racial profiling, to maybe being denied some of their rights as well. In the article “Obama defends plan to build mosque near ground zero,” there is controversy to whether Muslims should be allowed to build a mosque near ground zero. The first amendment of the United States Constitution grants freedom of religion; therefore, Muslims have every right to build a mosque near ground zero. Although the 911 attacks were made by Islamic terrorists, the whole Muslim community shouldn’t be punished.
The attacks by Al Qaeda on September 11th were co-ordinated and calculated they hit the heart of capitalism and also the Pentagon another plane was ditched in a field in Pennsylvania which may have been heading for Washington D.C. almost three thousand people from many different countries were killed that day so the effects were felt world-wide. The response to this was the ongoing “War on Terror” with the deposition of the Taliban being the goal. Thirteen years later troops are still in Afghanistan and Iraq from both America and Britain although they are beginning to withdraw. Before the attacks of September 11th music had been used for protest there
And in order for this tone to work, Alter needs to have a specific audience in mind. The intended audience for this article can most likely be directed toward the American People.
