Name the two monarchs who finally funded Columbus' explorations. Two Monarchs were Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand. Where did Columbus land in October, 1492? Columbus landed in the Bahamas. What was the "fundamental difference" between Columbus' voyage in 1492 and other Portuguese explorers of that time?
The Migration and Refugee Assistance Act of 1962 was enacted by the Kennedy Administration to offer assistance to the large number of Cubans fleeing to Miami seeking political asylum. The Freedom Tower stands as the single most identifiable building with the Cuban exile experience. The building stands as a physical manifestation of Cold War era politics, and their influence it exerted over national immigration policies developed to assist the steady stream of Cubans arriving in the United States during the period. The Freedom Tower faces east with 125 feet frontage onto Biscayne Boulevard originally known as North Bayshore Drive and occupies 253
At the Seattle-Tacoma Airport, in Tacoma, Washington, he released thirty-six passengers and two crew members once his demands were met (Pasternak). After taking off again Cooper ordered the plane to fly at a low altitude towards Mexico. At 8:13pm pressure gauges recorded his jump over the Lewis River from 10,000ft into a thunderstorm with over a hundred mile per hour winds and negative temperatures wearing only a thin suit, wrap-around sunglasses, and a rain coat (Brad Meltzer's Decoded). Many people believe that this was a suicidal jump and that Cooper died that night (Mysterious Disappearances in U.S. History). A reporting error in this high interest case mixed up his name forever immortalizing him as D.B.
“Until my ghastly tale is told, this heart within me burns.”; a quote from Samuel Taylor Coleridge in the famous, longest major poem called The Rime of the Ancient Mariner which tells a story about Albatross. Midway Island, also known as Pihemanu, is an island in the middle of the North Pacific Ocean and located more than 2000 miles from the nearest continent where Albatross live and breed. Midway Atoll was used to be “Albatross’ paradise”, but now, it is a graveyard for them. Do you know why they die so easily? We can find numerous bottle caps, wires, metal or non-biodegradable plastics or materials, lighters or even a toothbrush inside their stomach – undigested; especially inside the Albatross’ babies.
The Bermuda Triangle Mystery The Bermuda Triangle is a strange and mysterious region in the South West Atlantic, where people, ships, boats, and air craft flying over it have presumably been sucked into its stormy waters and/or disappeared. The apexes of this triangle have been widely disputed but generally thought to be Bermuda, Miami, Florida, and San Juan, Puerto Rico; this area covers about 500000 miles. One may ask how could a ship possibly disappear, but somehow many ships have. In 1918, a navy ship called the U.S.S Cyclops went missing along with 309 crew members. No one knows for sure what happened, but people have speculated that the captain was rather eccentric, and that the crew had a disagreements, which later, was settled before the ship vanished.
What you don’t know is why. Walcott’s poem gives you the first clue, but from then on you’re in Diaz’ hands. Oscar is a nobody in many ways: an overweight, science-fiction-obsessed black Dominican virgin – and as Diaz makes clear, the virgin part is the real oddity -- making his way through life in the suburbs of Paterson, New Jersey. But leer de nuevo, read it again. He’s Dominican and he’s black; so he’s carrying around in his body layers of stories that make up a nation’s past and present.
Hispaniola: A Tale of Two Countries T. Laman November 15, 1999 At the mere mention of the word Haiti, images of the “boat people” immediately come to mind. Because it was not so long ago that the newspapers and television stories captured the saga of hundreds of desperate people fleeing this very poor nation in shoddy boats and attempting to make the perilous journey to Miami and economic liberty. Haiti is a country on the western third of the island of Hispaniola, which it shares with the Dominican Republic. Why did the Haitians become “boat people” and the Dominicans did not? Why are the Haitians so much poorer than the Dominicans?
Unfortunately the poor man was shot in Dallas and then five years later his brother Robert was also killed. The lack of Kennedy's made it possible for Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon to make a terrible mess out of our involvement with Vietnam. Socially in the United States the country was working through some civil rights hiccups. The Supreme Court case of Brown vs. The Board of Education had declared segregation to be unconstitutional (but I believe that was in 1958?)
(slide) Geography Bermuda Triangle is located between the island of Bermuda, the coast of southern Florida, and Puerto Rico. It covers an area of about 440,000 sq m. And is also called Devil’s Triangle due its devilish characteristics ( Slide) HISTORY Gentlemen, The sinister reputation of the Bermuda Triangle may be traceable to early reports made in the late 15th century by navigator Christopher Columbus while circumferencing the(slide sargasso sea) Sargasso Sea, In 1492, shortly before making land in the West Indies, Christopher Columbus recorded in his ship’s log that he and his crew had observed a large ball of fire fall into the sea and that the ship’s compass was behaving erratically(slide). However, Flight 19 incident in 1945 brought Bermuda Triangle in real lime light (Flight 19 Slide) On December 5th, 1945, a clear day five Navy Avengers of US Navy named flight 19 took off for a routine mission from Florida. (route path)The experienced crew had a routine two hour mission with fuel topped up. The aircraft were equipped with modern radio and navigational equipments of the time.
