Beer Game Reflection The BeerGame taught me a valuable lesson of never taking charge of a situation that I am not familiar with. Having organized a time and location for our group to meet, I naturally assumed control of the group by setting up the game and choosing the team name. I also took first pick in the roles and decided to be the producer, knowing that everything ultimately will stem from me. The other members of my group followed suite and chose their positions and so began week 1. Surprisingly for the first 16 weeks our group excelled in every position and made an overall profit of 900$, along with having positive stock and money in each of the four positions. I found out shortly that when things go array the blame falls on the one with the power first. Though I had no real power, through my over confidence I had assumed the role of the leader and soon the other members of Team C, started questioning my decisions and soon all of our profits started to dwindle. No serious bonds were broken or stretched between our group and through this failure we actually learned more about this game from the actual experience. For instance we learned that the game accounted for reality by having delays in the communication between the four stations. We noticed this when I first changed the number of orders of production which ultimately didn’t arrive until “2 weeks later,” causing the confusion and the beginning of the end of our first attempt. Also after actually playing the game, when we re-read the instructions we had a better idea of what was going on with the interaction between the four stations and weren’t as lost.
