April 4, 2014 English 101 Unlock the Education of Young Girls Leymah like many of us young girls of all ethnicities, are single mothers who strive for a better life every day. As a mother of four children she wanted to make a difference in young girls in her village in Africa. Leymah was born and raised in Africa in a small village in north Liberia. Many the kids her age did not pursue their education; they never took it serious. She was one out of many of her peers who excelled in the ninth grade.
Cherilyn Sarkisian was born on May 20, 1946 in El Centro, California to a John Sarkisian a refugee who worked as a truck driver and Georgia Holt an aspiring actress and sometimes a model. Cher faced tribes and tribulation when her parents divorced. Due to financial problem Cher ended up in a temporary foster home till her mother came back to get her. Cher’s mother remarried again to a banker named Gilbert Capierre who later adopted her. When Cher was young she was diagnosed with dyslexia but didn’t let that stop her from her dream in 1941 she saw the movie Dumbo q“and I pead my pants” she realized that she wanted to become a singer and a dancing animal.
She realized she had a special gift when she starred in a play called Annie. One of her first appearances was on the show Star Search. She appeared on this show at the age of eleven. Aaliyah had made all of her dreams come true in 1995. At age 15 she released her first R & B album, “Age Ain't Nothing But a Number.” Her album sold quickly.

My second oldest sister was never a big fan of school. She believed she was not smart enough and that school was way too hard for her. She got pregnant by the age of 19 years old; she became a young, and happy mother. Her decision of starting a family at a young age was always part of her plans; she had wanted this all along. Her choice was never based on how school made her feel but on how she felt.
She also launched a monthly book segment on her show and her selections immediately became best sellers. She extended the Oprah brand in publishing by creating her own magazine (O) and in broadcasting by launching syndicated series with Dr. Phil McGraw and Chef Rachael Ray. Winfrey's legacy grew even larger when she founded and funded a South African leadership school for impoverished girls she fondly referred to as her daughters. In
Prosser’s life came to a tragic halt, leaving the world wondering what she could have accomplished had she lived longer. Prosser was an inspirational figure for siblings, as well as for the people who she came into contact with in her career. Inez Beverly Prosser, born Inez Prosser was born to parents Samuel Andrew Beverly and Veola Hamilton, in the small town Yoakum, Texas. (Benjamin, Henry, Mcmahon 2005) Due to lack of public record her year of birth is not verifiable by any one specific source. Prosser is the second oldest of eleven children but the first to go to college.
“When you're a beautiful person on the inside, there is nothing in the world that can change that about you. Jealousy is the result of one's lack of self-confidence, self-worth, and self-acceptance. The Lesson: If you can't accept yourself, then certainly no one else will.” In Joan Didion’s essay, with the help of periodic sentences and metaphorical language, she explains that self-respect does not come from others but from within oneself; it cannot be achieved when one is averse to oneself. Didion was looking for outer gratification, but through the ordeal of being rejected, gains the knowledge that self-respect is proper value of one’s character, and learning to love oneself. One can only be truly happy when one learns to accept oneself.
Marilyn came from the part of North that we like to call the “bottom”. She showed me that just because you live in the hood doesn’t mean you don’t have a chance to become something positive in life. Marilyn is a success as a mother and wife. She is a successful woman because she was determined to do whatever it takes to make it out of the ghetto. My mom is the first in her family to have children to go to college.
Tyleen Snowden Sociology 3336-02F June 1, 2014 “Clothed with Strength and Dignity, she laughs without fear of the future”- Proverbs 31:25 Free Fab’Rik is a nonprofit spinoff of the Fab’Rik stores. The Free Fab’Rik stores feature higher end consignment clothing donated form the community. The non-profits partner with national organizations like Wellsprings, City of Refuge, My Sister’s house and Haven Atlanta to help women transition from homelessness and sex trafficking with mentorship programs and vocational training. This year, Free Fab’Rik celebrated with their first class of girls’ graduation from the fashion retail job training program. I have been volunteering and shopping at the store since April.
