Fall of Singapore The Fall of Singapore was a major attack from the Japanese in their South-East Asia Campaign. Singapore was an island on the Malay Peninsula, led by Prime Minster, Shenton Thomas, and British army commander, Arthur Percival. The British underestimated the Japanese and thought they were poor fighters. If they were attacked, the whole population of Singapore knew the only way in was by sea, so therefore heavy artillery pointed outwards from the coast of Singapore. Both bombed factories where military weapons where being made to slow down their enemy. Also being bombed where military forces, railways, harbors, cities, civillians, and industrial areas. They did this to try and break down their enemys will to fight, to try and lower their morale and help shorten the war. My opinion on this argument is that there should be no civillians killed by bombs unless it was accidental.
This was the day that the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. They did this without warning and without a formal declaration of war. As a result of this attack, more than 2000 Americans were killed, along with over a thousand being wounded. The attack was meant to keep the U.S. Pacific Fleet from interfering with military actions the Japanese were planning in Southeast Asia. This led to the U.S. to abandon their support for non-interventionism, declaring war on Japan and entering World War II.
As a result, Japan’s plan to attack Midway was brought into the picture, so that they could get a upper hand and demolish the U.S. The U.S was brought into the Battle of Midway as, they were Japan’s goal. Japan wanted to take Midway away from the U.S and use it for them to further extend their control of the pacific. But that failed horribly as the Japanese lost, as Midway destroyed Japan’s naval force, a loss that the Japanese never recovered from. The outcome of the events left many wounded, as many lost lives, and their loved ones.
