After the events of Midway, the U.S. opened a gate with many successes by conquering islands invaded by Japan in an effort to stop attacks on U.S. forces. Gaining the islands was essential in order to invade Japan’s mainland in order to get closer to victory over Japan. Later in the war Japan would not have it’s mainland invaded. Most islands consisted of airfields and Japanese Bases, which were required to conquer and gain an advantage over Japan’s Army. America’s success at Midway was a crucial blow to the Imperial Navy’s fleet, which would not fully recover until the war was lost.
Attack on Pearl Harbor and the United States Flaws The attack on Pearl Harbor was an astonishing military strike by Japan against the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor. This attack was not sudden, but an event led up to by previous conflicts arising between both powerful nations. Relations began worsening as Japan set out and expanded in Manchuria. When Japan effortlessly defeated China, the US began to foresee war with Japan. As Japan annexed China and Manchuria, war out broke between these countries.
Having lost her Pacific battleships at the outset, the US Navy (USN) had to rely on new strategies to hold and protect its remaining Pacific interests. Out of necessity, the USN formed its remaining carriers into strike forces to conduct raids on the Japanese’s outlying areas. One such significant raid, the Battle of the Coral Sea, showed the significance of carriers being used in a doctrinally different, yet effective, way.
The main specific objectives of the Japanese aim at attacking the US were to destroy the US Pacific Fleet which prevent them from interfering when Japan conquered Dutch East Indies and Malaya, take all Asia’s land back because US could not detain Japan from doing so, fortify Japan against US counter attack, negotiate peace treaty with US from position of strength in 1 year with continued cost of US human lives with Japan and in 6 months be conquered and to deiver a major blow to American morale ultimately discouraging US from entering war. Japan’s hope of achievement and how was the oil embargo signed by President Roosevelt which crippled Japanese expansionist drives severely and 9/10th of oil source was cut off by the US. The Japanese Empire’s control of the Pacific would force US to establish favorable terms in resuming oil imports thus a decision to handle this manner was annihilate American’s military
Should have America dropped the atomic bomb? In this essay I am going to say whether America should have dropped the atomic bomb. The two main points is yes they should have or the shouldn’t have. The first main point was that USA were worried by Japanese expansion so which they banned all their trading going to Japan, which stopped 80% of all the oil supplied to Japan in the summer of 1941. After this outbreak from the Americans the Japanese hit back with a surprise attack on the Americans which allowed the conquest of South-East Asia and the Pacific before the Americans had even recovered from the surprise attack.
Germany established a submarine war zone around the British Isles and said they would sink any enemy war ships that entered that proximity. Innocent American trading and merchant ships were being shot down and sunk by ruthless German warfare at sea. Germany refused to let the neutral America trade goods with their enemy countries. This dramatically impacted America because much of the American economy was controlled by trade with Britain and France, and moving forward America knew it would be impossible to keep an expanding economy without GB and France. America, despite its efforts, could not remain neutral and was forced to enter World War 1.
It happened on an 8 square mile island that took the mane, Iwo Jima (Battle of Iwo Jima, par 1). American troops were told that their goal was to take the airfield of Iwo Jima for the future bombing of Tokyo. The Japanese were assigned to kill ten American soldiers before they had the right to die. The battle lasted from February 19, 1945 to March 26, 1945, which was a little over a month,. In thirty-six days there were nearly twenty-six thousand US casualties, almost seven thousand American troops were KIA (Hama, Erksine and Williams 98).
The Japanese wanted to continue their uprising and immersive expansion within Asia but the United States had placed an extremely and highly enforced restrictive embargo on Japan in the hopes of curbing the country's own aggression towards other countries and delaying its idealistic beliefs. Negotiations were sought to solve their differences, but none hadn't been going well between the two parties regarding the actions and affairs of one's agenda. Rather than giving in to U.S. demands of peace and stoppage of expansion, the Japanese decided to launch a daring surprise attack against the United States in an attempt to destroy the United States Navy and Fleet before an official declaration announcement of war was given to the
With this amount of casualties projected, a land invasion would have trumped the death toll of D-Day. Also, more civilians and more cities would have been destroyed because of the strict Japanese leadership and stubbornness to surrender, especially when they know that they are in an un-winnable war. Another negative one could claim is that these events lead to the arms race. If the bombs were not dropped, there would have still been the arms race. Urgent use of the bombs portrayed to the world of the bombs potential and prevented future use when stockpiles were much
They concocted a plan to conquer the Indies, but Japan believed that such a conquest would evidently bring America into war. To thwart American efforts to liberate the Dutch East Indies, Japan called for an attack on America’s navy. Using the attack on Pearl Harbor, Japan was able to secure the necessary resources from the Dutch East Indies which would help their war against China. Japan also expected to come across a revengeful America. Despite the threat, Japan believed that the resources they secured form both China and the Dutch East Indies would be sufficient in dealing with a petty
