Assault Weapons in the United States of America A topic which provokes very heated discussion and demonstration, gun control is a subject any politician vying for public office will come to encounter during their term in office. Many Americans believe that it is their right to own weapons to include semi and automatic assault rifles. This viewpoint is based on their interpretation of the Constitution, specifically the Second Amendment. The origin for the term assault rifle stems from the German word sturmgewehr (wikipedia) which translates to storm rifle.
