It gives people a more personal view.” This personal view is what Beah had aimed for. He spoke of human context and how important it was for people to have in order to understand anything in the world. His book gave people in the United States that human context. It was this human context that allowed people to realize and comprehend the wars going on in Africa. “We are trying to promote awareness and discussion,” said Professor Paul Moriarty of the department of Philosophy.
I believe that racism does operate like a web. An article to support this idea would be Michael O. Emerson’s “Race, Religion, and Color Line (Or Is That the Color Wall?)”. Emerson quoted, “Religion contributes to racial division and inequality, then, in that it increases racial categorization, which is a by-product of congregational segregation” (207). By growing up in a certain area, the majority of American citizens tend to carry out connections with the people they see and share the same beliefs with. It’s going to be hard to overcome this racial segregation if you have grown up with it, but it is something that can be

(doc.6, doc.2, doc.3) In Africa, trade amongst empires, kingdoms, and cities helped the economies prosper and gain the wealth for these societies as shown in documents one, three, and eight. One of Africa’s cities, Aksum, became a valuable trading center in Africa because of it’s location (doc.1). The wealth of these societies is also clearly stated through Ghana where traders had to pass (doc.3).

To achieve this, the author expounds the purpose with various elements of ethos. First of all, when talking about the donation, the author refers to some famous people, like Bill Gates, who also has donated his money. This fact can offer the audience a strong sense of credibility and persuade them to donate, by utilizing the large Gates' influence to the American people. Secondly, the author also tries to make the facts more reliable with ethos, which can gain more confidence from the audience. Suzanne Collins and Veronica Roth both took up the challenge of writing some pretty heavy stuff for young readers and still managed to get their messages across. With both stories being set in post-apocalyptic dystopian societies, the Hunger Games and Divergent book series’ seem to agree that there are major issues with the world that are leading to its destruction, but they see two different roots of the problem. On one hand, the Hunger Games attacks the more wealthy population and large government and on the other, while Divergent does put some blame on the government, it mostly blames human error and flawed personalities. Although the people these books were intended for may not understand all of the hidden meanings, the general ideas will still stick in their heads and they will eventually understand it and what these stories are accusing the human race of doing wrong. In the Hunger Games, Collins is clearly pointing out that the main problems of society is government, specifically big government.
These imperialist nations, such as Great Britain, France, Italy, and Germany, showed African nations many new ideals and tools that spread like a cultural virus. One very well-known story of this part of history is a book written by Chinua Achebe, titled Things Fall Apart. The book tells a fantastic story of a tribe in Nigeria which becomes a victim of the European imperialists. Achebe does a remarkable job of giving the reader the vivid change from the African tribe before and after the Europeans arrived. Things Fall Apart centers around a Nigerian tribe leader named Okonkwo.
As I was reading the essay, I noticed the reoccurring theme of information and knowledge. This is perhaps the biggest example of “Cause and Effect” within the entire text. If people knew the harmful impact their actions had on the environment what would be the effect? If people were knowledgeable about our gratuitous consumption of earth’s resources we could provide a sustainable future for generations to come. But until then, we are digging a hole that may eventually be too deep to
