This was a disaster and Buckingham had to retreat his troops without even aiding the Huguenots, which made him become the most despised man in England as he was seen responsible for the military failures. One MP, Sir Edwyn Sandys, said that ‘since England was England it received not so an honourable blow’. This therefore decreased the reputation of the Crown because Charles was the one who appointed Buckingham as ‘Lord Admiral’ in the first place and caused tensions between them and Parliament. It also caused discontent as it meant that Britain was at war with Spain and France too. More importantly, though, this caused great strain on the country and Charles couldn’t find the necessary funding to finance the wars, which lead to him implementing the Forced Loan on December 1627.
Henry was starting to get annoyed because Catherine was not giving him a son. He was cheating on Catherine with a few other girls and did get a son with one of his girlfriends but because they were not married the son was illegitimate and he could not become King. Henry was planning to get a divorce then in 1503 so he asked his Cardinal, Thomas Wolsey – his adviser and close friend to arrange it. Catherine kept refusing. Henry wanted to divorce Catherine and marry the 20-year-old daughter of the Earl of Wiltshire, Anne Boleyn.
I agree with the view that Wolsey's fall from power was mainly the result of Anne's hostility towards him. This is because of many things that happened during the time period such as his failure to get an annulment for Henry VIII. Source 4 also agrees with this view. Source 4 is basically at the point where Anne Boleyn told Wolsey to forget it and stop trying to get them an annulment because he obviously was getting nowhere and it wasn't working. Source 4 says, "...caused me so much sorrow...".
But it didn’t work out so they got a divorce in the same year (1533). The other 4 of his wives were either beheaded or they died or even survived. Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard were beheaded. Anne because Henry said she was unfaithful and couldn’t give him a son and Catherine because she had a relationship with Thomas Culpeper during her marriage. Jane Seymour died when she was giving birth to Henry’s only son, Edward VI.

Phillip was angry at this, however, he was also angry afterwards when he found out that Mary Queen of Scotland went to Elizabeth (her sister) for help, even though Mary was her sister Elizabeth did not help her, in fact she imprisoned her. Phillip was angry at this because Mary Queen of Scotland was Catholic and so was Phillip. The Armada was a collection of large ships that held sailors, soldiers and supplies. In total there was around two hundred ships, eighteen thousand soldiers along with another thirty thousand waiting in the Netherlands and thirty thousand five hundred sailors on board before they set off. They thought that by staying together they could lose less ships so they got the idea of the crescent formation.
At the start of king Charles reign things were already looking odd for him because the things he chose to do where completely against parliaments plans. Parliament had to know what the king was doing before he did it but because he never told them what was happening. Parliament and Charles friendship was crumbling gradually. In 1625 Charles married Henrietta Maria, the fifteen year old daughter of Henri IV of France who was a catholic she had her own chapel and priest. Puritans and protestants started to put up posters against the church and the king in 1637 archbishop laud put the people making the posters in trial and those found guilty were severely punished .
Therefore, I believe Manon hates her husband. This gives the impression to the reader that Manon is always negative and is harsh towards her husband, making people believe she is not loving towards him. However, the narrator’s restricted viewpoint could lead us to believe that she is biased and unreliable because she is narrating only from her point of view. Also, at the beginning of the games, Manon has a sympathetic tone towards the slaves and feels sorry for them because she says, “I couldn’t watch anymore.” This suggests that Manon feels ashamed of what she is letting her husband do to the slaves and that she feels sadness building up inside of her towards the slaves being treated horrifically. The dynamic verb of “watch” shows to the reader that Manon feels a little bit of pain towards the slaves and that she feels that they are only being used for torture.
Essex’s humiliation also played a great part in causing the rebellion as he faced dismissals from court, house arrest and a slap from Queen Elizabeth I. By 1600 Essex was broke and no longer a favourite of the Queen, he had been humiliated greatly through military losses and loss of status and was constantly being outmanoeuvred by the Cecil faction who, in the Essex faction’s eyes was stealing their place in court. Factional reasons were the main cause of the Essex rebellion because there was a constant rivalry between the Essex faction and the Cecil faction. The Cecil faction only joined court in 1547(?) under Edward Seymour as Duke of Somerset whereas the Essex faction had been there for many more generations and this angered them greatly this is because the Cecil faction were seen to be new money, meaning that they had not come from a long line of wealth, unlike the Essex faction.
