The two men understood and appreciated the missions of their supporters, adapted to their audiences, and remained themselves while stepping up as leaders. Both men utilized these three key principles of influence, but the specifics of how they did so differed (McGrawHillPro, 2011). In Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream,” he understood the mission, to eliminate racism and unify all men. King knew his audience and adapted his speech in an attempt to reach people of all races and religions, and in all regions across the nation. He also remained himself by demonstrating integrity and courage, sticking to his beliefs and not backing down, despite potential opposition (MartinLKingJrDay, 2009).
He used this as the base of the speech, which helped with the types of techniques, he was trying to do. I enjoyed reading the speech. I liked it manly because it talked about the things martin luther king jr. would have done to make this world better, the things he wanted to see happen and the things he wanted to change to make this world a better place. This speech showed what he wanted to happen in the past, and what he is going to make happen in the near future near the year of this speech. Its very inspirational and I would recommend it to others to read.
But I liked reading David Foster Wallace’s The Good People. So I thought, why not give it a go? After all I am trying to imitate him. In The Good People, David Foster Wallace uses a lot of flashback, details, and characterizations. I tried that with my story.
It further looks how these seemingly different individuals share much common ground and how a simple man is able to teach much to a king. The unofficial lessons of Somax are of great importance to Priam. They allowed him to reconnect with his mortal self and allowed others to share in that. The lessons by Somax are important in preparing Priam for the journey ahead and allowed him to be reborn. His lessons therefore contribute to the success of the quest.
The Lilies of the Field In the 1963 Movie, “Lilies of the Field,” starring Sidney Poitier and Lilia Skala, a message of hard work, faith, determination and teamwork is portrayed. This award winning film directed by Ralph Nelson is not only filled with side-splitting comedic scenes, but it has drama that is sure to captivate the heart. This film explores the values of man in a religious context and how we all must live as one for self development. Nelson succeeds in not only entertaining the audience, but instilling morals and self worth in people. The key theme of this film is explained within the title itself - God will always satisfy the needs of those who come to Him with faith.
The King of Salem, Melchizedek, did an affable deed for Santiago. He told him everything he knew which was amicable of him. That was one way of the universe guiding him. The King taught him very useful information which also helps him. It leads to him to make choices.
Brooks’ easy to read and understand discussion of the importance of naming good news in the sermon is immensely helpful. According to Brooks, good news preaching is intentional. This intentionality is through the interpretative reading of the text and moves through homiletical exegesis. In a practical manner, Brooks provides the method that will enable preachers to offer the gospel (good news) in every sermon. I found the practical sections of this book to be extremely helpful.
No matter what other people thought of it, he was fascinated by it. I could only imagine how hard it was for him to attend school and have this feeling all bottled up and no one to share it with because it was frowned upon. I guess it would be like having a secret that you want to share but you know it could be bad if you told someone, or you would be judged different by letting someone know. Kind of makes you wonder about
Robin Williams in “Good Will Hunting” A key element in any speech, regardless of the audience or subject matter, is the ability of the speaker to speak with passion and evoke some sort of emotion within the audience. A perfect example of this is demonstrated in the movie Good Will Hunting by Robin Williams’ character, Sean Maguire. In this speech, the audience is Matt Damon’s character, Will Hunting. Robin Williams is able to immediately grab the attention of Matt Damon’s character by his tone of voice and his ability to dive straight into the main points of his speech. He is also able to establish his thesis very early on, letting his audience know that this was a very serious subject and therefore pulling his audience in and demanding their attention.
Nabokov’s interpretation of a good writer is a bit similar to what a good reader is. Imagination has a big part in being a good writer. A great writer must do his part and be a “storyteller, a teacher, and an enchanter”. If he lacks those traits he wouldn’t be able to
