I've Been To The Mountaintop. (April 3, 1963) Kings goal of this speech was to energize his listeners for the strike. He analyzed the moral of the Good Samaritans of the past. He also talked about the Memphis strikers with the roadside victim and urging his listeners to act the part of being a good samaritans. Later in his speech he talked about the placing of the struggle in Memphis in the company of pertaining to the events and his own greatest achievements King elevated the strike from a small minor local event, to a significant act in the entire Western drama of the 1960's. One of the big appeals that King used in his speech was ethics. He talked about how “no longer can they just talk about it. It is no longer a choice between violence and nonviolence in this world; it's nonviolence or nonexistence.” Which is saying that if you aren't violent you aren't able to contribute anything and get “stomped on”. His choices of words in this speech lean towards his ethic's being good. Also his authority in this speech is very strong he seems like he is talking with confidence even though its just a speech. The techniques in this were very simple he used lots of repletion, like talking about how if he went back in time the things he would do. He continuously repeated talking about the past. He used this as the base of the speech, which helped with the types of techniques, he was trying to do. I enjoyed reading the speech. I liked it manly because it talked about the things martin luther king jr. would have done to make this world better, the things he wanted to see happen and the things he wanted to change to make this world a better place. This speech showed what he wanted to happen in the past, and what he is going to make happen in the near future near the year of this speech. Its very inspirational and I would recommend it to others to read.
