A prime example of linguicism is southerners’ accents. Religious prejudice of the Muslim religion strongly exists today. Many feel that those who do not believe in their faith are bad and potentially harmful. For example, individuals feel Muslims are terrorists or bad due to their past during the September 11th terrorist attacks and other incidents. Furthermore, Christians are viewed as close-minded due to their conservative
Creon quotes, “Then get you down thither, and love, if you must love, the dead! No woman, while I live, shall order me.” (Sophocles 20). Creon feels that he is very much above females. Because he is a king and a man, his mindset of arrogance and prejudice is very dense. He is very open about his sexism and ignorantly acts on it.
Many examples in the book made me consider perspectives that I had never thought of before. In my opinion, this book definitely stirred up a reassurance of my place in society and what can be done to liberate the oppressed. I believe the voices represented in this book can cause negative reactions from some churches because it goes against what is and has been normal. Churches would not really like to change the view of “white” Christ to be a diverse Christ of another race because it would change certain aspects and power. The church is called to be one diverse body of God, but as churches can remain dominant to one race, it becomes difficult to incorporate diversity into what already is established.
If the majority of people vote against same sex marriage, then it shows that is not an important issue and future votes may not be called for due to the large number of people against it. Changing marriage laws in states is a tedious process, because if done to quickly, it can have such negative
When talking about homosexual vs. heterosexual unions, they are comparable in all ways; however, legalizing them together would cause irrevocable damage to our already weak view of the institution of marriage. Our young generation is in a time where they are being told how to speak and sometimes think, and societal indifference to gay marriage would further confuse our youths who already find their sexuality hard. It is very important that we continue to take strides toward accepting homosexual unions; however, legalizing gay marriage is not a necessary step for that to
Equality Opportunity’ in that the burdens of racism can only be overcome by taking race into account. Affirmative action also aims to reflect the racial diversity of the nation, the ‘Equality of Results’, within schools, the firm and the workplace. Despite being mainly supported by Democrats, and rejected by Republicans President Nixon played a significant role in affirmative action by instituting ‘set aside’ policies to reserve a certain percentage for minorities. The main advantage of affirmative action is that is leads to a greater diversity in societies main institutions, arguably this would not be achieved had things been left as they were. It is also argued on the basis of righting those previously wronged, by opening areas of education and employment that would not have previously been available to minorities.
Also, in a world of inequality, people who share common views unite to seek justice and a sense of security, as well as belonging. Additionally, injustice can cause people to turn on each other, most of which is derived from fear. People require authority in order to seek justice, and therefore comparable groups unite. In such a big world, it is extremely hard to be heard as an individuals, unless you have power, such as politicians, celebrities and the like. In order to overcome such a hurdle, it is easier for people to unite, such as protestors against gay marriage.
Discrimination in the United States Although the genuine word "discrimination" basically means the capability to differentiate or separate features, discrimination in the United States is frequently deemed a prohibited act where a person or human being is criticized or excluded based exclusively on things such as religion, race, age, or gender. Bigotry is an attack on the very concept of individual civil liberties. Discrimination is the regular rejection of full human rights due to what they believe or who they are. If you consider someone less than human, then it is easy to deny them their human rights (Macionis, 2013). How many ladies think that they are treated the same as males when it comes to employment?
The political attitude that is most likely to influence a relationship is a person’s values and morals, and this is because values and morals define what an individual believes is right and wrong, having a strong effect on lifestyle and family choices. Race is a deciding factor in both party identification and in partner choice along with how individuals were raised. I believe that moral values, degree of church attendance, and racial background have a much larger impact on partner choice than the couple’s parties of choice. As stated in the prompt, Flanigan and Zingale argue that, “most people care little about politics, and it plays a small part in their personal relationships”, but later states that, “ordinarily, primary groups do not tolerate high levels of political tension and conflict” (Flanigan and Zingale, 120). Drawing on my knowledge of American political behavior, the first statement is very clear and I believe to be true, but the second statement is slightly confusing with its use of the word “tolerate”.
Homosexual Marriage: Society, Rights, and Adoption The United States is denying good people a better life based on sexual orientation. Acceptance of homosexual marriage is a major issue in today’s society. This is a civil issue, and the United States needs to start realizing that they are denying marriage rights to homosexuals because of moral reasons. What ever happened to separation of church and state? Opponents of homosexual marriage feel that by allowing gay and lesbians the right to marriage undermines the traditional definition of marriage.
