On the other hand Britain also had many advantages over the Americans. A major advantage the British had was they were very wealthy and could pay their soldiers to fight. They also had much more supplies for their
During the war, the US has increased in defence spending. US navy ships rose from 600 to 1000, air force increased from 42 wing groups to 72. Which also helped the US to be equip itself to be the ‘World’s police officer’ This shows how the US military gained a lot of money from the War benefiting them in war, as they were better armed. As a result this raised more businesses to profit from more defence weapons as they were popular in demand (‘the military-industrial complex). Therefore the money raised helped the American economy and living standards which hence shows how the Americans could be seen as the successors of the War.
What has the Navy ever done for us? In the past, the Navy has done a lot for Britain and the United Kingdom. Nowadays, it can be said that the Navy is less needed because of the high increase in air travel and such, but many people still consider our Navy to be the best in the world. The Navy was first and foremost the sea army, protecting the country from the enemy (other countries). It did this by travelling all of the seas and fighting and other ships that threaten them.
Therefore I believe Lord Curzon was indeed a successful viceroy. Of the Sources, source two is intended to convey Lord Curzon’s tenure as Viceroy in the most positive manner .It lists his positive qualities that made him “India’s best ruler under the raj” . However given the nature of the British Empire in countries such as India the main priority is not always the well fair of the country. For instance many believe Britain was draining India of its wealth rather than helping develop the country, Dadabhai Naoroji's created this “drain theory”. Britain had used combination of force as well as divides and conquers to control India Up until this point.
Overall I believe that the economy for pre-Conquest England as well- governed to an extent as the King did have large control, he did control this well, but he may have been seen as too powerful where the government is concerned. However it wasn't well developed so therefore in my opinion it wasn't very prosperous. The political aspect of pre-conquest England was fairly good due to the fact that Edwards court
Why did Parliament win the Civil War? The First Civil War lasted several years and it was not clear who was to win. In the end however, Parliament did succeed, and the King failed. The generals were a major factor, they inspired there army to fight well and bravely and had to work out the tactics that were to be used. Oliver Cromwell became the most important general on the Parliamentarian side and Prince Rupert on the Royalist side.
The Spanish Civil War ended with Nationalist victory: a victory that was certainly due in part to the overwhelmingly fortunate circumstances and odds that the Nationalists had from the very beginning of the war. There were both good tactical judgements made by the Nationalists during the war and bad tactical moves from the Republicans that resulted in these odds being tilted even more in the Nationalists’ favour, however. Whilst victory certainly favoured the Nationalists, it was only ensured by the successes and failings that occurred within the war itself. The first advantage that the Nationalists had were that their ideals ultimately proved to be more popular on an international scale than the ideals of the Republicans, leading to more support for their cause. Because of their right-wing standing, it meant that businesses would always favour their service rather than that of the left-wing Republicans, as the Republican ideals would pave the way for more intimidating economic circumstances.
With each level of this hierarchy had its own leader. For example the sheriffs managed the shires under the Earls. This system shows that there was a very clear peaking order in pre- conquest England; this would have made the country a lot easier to manage because each division of land had a local lord to manage it. However, the power of the Earls was one of the issues that this system had. When the Earls combined their power it was enough to overpower the King, this meant that if they worked together they would be able to overcome him without an issue at all.
There are several reasons as to why Lloyd George won the general election in 1918 such as his personal popularity, the success of the wartime coalition government in winning the war, the increased number of votes from the public and David Lloyd Georges decisions and promises made during the election campaign. Lloyd Georges personal popularity was mainly based on his achievements of leading the country successfully through the Great War after the collapse of Asquith's government. Although Lloyd George was a liberal himself, he became head of the coalition government, mainly of unionists or conservatives with Liberals and Labours support. He was increasingly seen as having the necessary energy to drive and achieve victory becoming the 'man who won the war'. The 1918 election subsequently became known as the coupon election in reference to the signed letter of endorsement that selected coalition candidates received from Lloyd George and the conservative leader Andrew Bonar Law.
Revolutionary War The British Army was the most powerful army in the world and had effectively protected its ground against all the major European powers (Syrett). However, they had never fought a war such as the Revolutionary war. The British Army outnumbered the American army, which one would think is a great advantage, and the soldiers were actually trained, opposed to the American army, led by General George Washington, which was composed of young, landless, unskilled, and poor soldiers (Phelan). Virtually all the advantages went to the British, however, George Washington still managed to lead his country to victory and independence. For the British, conquering the colonies was an almost impossible task.
