The First Transatlantic Flight The majority of people in their mid twenties today are either still in college, in graduate school, starting a job, or starting a family. None of these things were the case for twenty five year old Captain Charles A. Lindbergh in 1927. On May 21, 1927 Lindbergh took flight in what would eventually become the first non-stop flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Owens (1927) writes in his New York Times article: A sluggish grey monoplane lurched its way down Roosevelt Field, slowly gathering momentum. Inside sat a tall youngster, eyes glued to an instrument board or darting ahead for swift glances at the runway, his face drawn with the intensity of his purpose.
Annie Dillard’s, “Stunt Pilot,” is a compelling story of her personal adventure through the air with renowned stunt pilot, Dave Rahm. Dillard takes one through the scenic journey she evoked on that day at the air show in Washington. Later, Dillard is granted the opportunity of a lifetime when she embarks on a flight with Rahm to explore the natural wonders of the mountains. Through her use of description, Dillard is able to successfully compare the craft of stunt pilots to the arts while effectively appealing to the readers emotion at the same time. First, Dillard recollects the moment she became entranced with David Rahm’s performance at the air show.

My First flight was probably the most memorable experiences that I have ever had in my life. This experience also had a great impact on me the most because it was a lot of fun and exciting to go somewhere over sea. I have ridden in a boat before back in Vietnam, it was fun to ride on a boat but it was nothing compare to this flight. The difference is that when you are on an airplane you are more
After regaining my comfort, I starred outside the window, but instead of looking at the wing, I was more fixated on how tired I was. I began to close my eyes and started to feel myself lose touch with reality, but that was short-lived when a man came on over the loud speaker, "Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking, we would like to welcome you onboard American Airlines, flight to Rome, Italy. Flight duration is around ten hours and six minutes. We are expecting a fairly smooth flight today. Once again, we thank you for choosing to fly with us today and we hope you enjoy your flight."
Educated at Brisbane Grammar School and The Scots College, Warwick, Jackson joined the Young Australia League, with which he visited Europe. [1] After leaving school he ran a grazing property in St George. [2] By the early 1930s he was in business as a stock and station agent, and had interests in engineering and financial concerns. He was inspired by the 1934 London to Melbourne Air Race to take up flying, and purchased a Klemm Swallow monoplane. [1][3] In 1936 he took part in the South Australian centenary air race, flying from Brisbane to Adelaide.
Leslie R. Groves Jr., who oversaw the Manhattan Project said that Colonel Tibbets had been selected to train the crews because “he was a superb pilot of heavy planes, with years of military flying experience, and was probably as familiar with the B-29 as anyone in the service.” (Tibbets 1989) He took command of the newly created 509th Composite Group, a unit of 1,800 men who trained amid extraordinary security at Wendover Field in
I was working on zero sleep in the past 24 hours. As I made my approach to the ship, I was cleared for the landing spot just abeam the bridge. I looked up to the Flag Bridge once I was on deck and saw some of the MAG (Marine Air Group) staff looking down at us... giving us thumbs up, and big smiles. I was emotionally spent. The plane captain had to help me out of the aircraft.

The Twin Towers were 110 stories tall and they were some of the world’s tallest skyscrapers. The weather was also beautiful in other cities such as Portland Maine, and Boston Massachusetts. It would have been the perfect day for people expecting to travel on a plane. However, in one airport in Portland there were two specific travelers; Mohamed Atta and Abdul Aziz al Omari. These two people boarded a flight to travel from Portland to Boston, which was scheduled to leave at 6:00am.
