Adam Ward Composition 1 Analysis Essay 1 Polishing Aluminum No one likes to see a nice clean car or truck with dirty rims. Today what I am going to tell how to fix this dilemma with just a few materials and a bit of effort. These days, most rims on all motor vehicles including ATV’s and UTV’s are made out of aluminum. Aluminum is a very light, but durable, metal along with a good looking style. To get your old anodized aluminum looking brand new with a mirror finish you will need some different grits of sandpaper—150, 320, 600, 1000, and 2000. You will also need something to fill with water (to wet the sandpaper before use), a type of aluminum polish (Mother’s Mag and Aluminum Polish is one of the top rated polish’s on the market today and is available almost anywhere that has car related products), a white 100% cotton t-shirt, and a microfiber cloth or rag you wouldn’t mind getting dirty. You might want to wear some type of tight gloves to protect your skin while sanding, preferably dishwashing gloves. All sanding is done by using wet sandpaper. Using a dry sheet of sandpaper can cause clogging and is mainly used for preparing a surface that will be painted. In this step you will want to remove all of the big nicks and scratches from the aluminum. The sandpaper will create scratches but in further steps the scratches will be erased by using finer grit sandpaper. Start with the coarsest grit sandpaper you have by dipping the paper in water, then move in a back and forth motion with pressure on the whole piece. Upon completion, the piece should now be free of any nicks, dings, or scratches so you can move on to the next step. If it still has these, repeat this step until you are satisfied. The second grit should be a couple hundred grits finer than the first, preferably 320. This step is similar to the first step. Once again wet the sandpaper, now move in a
