Why do some parents feel the need to home school their children? These are some of the questions I will hopefully answer in this essay. Attending public school in the United States is not a legal requirement. But a child must have some form of education and that is a legal requirement. So let us continue and discern the pros of home schooling. Homeschooling is becoming more popular every day, with a growth rate of 7 to 15 percent per year. There are about two million children currently learning at home. Homeschooled kids do well on standardized tests, are welcome at colleges and universities, and as adults, have a reputation for being self-directed learners and reliable employees. Of Home Schooling Children who are home schooled can learn just as much as those who are enrolled in public or private schools as long as the people teaching them cover all the subjects necessary. Most parents who wish to home school their children tend to have a higher level of education and already have knowledge of the subjects they will be teaching their children. Parents can also get curriculum from from public schools or school districts like books and materials needed to educate their children. One of the advantages of home schooling is one-on-one attention. If a child does not understand something in math or science it can be dealt with immediately where as a public school may have 15-20 kids in each classroom that the teachers have to deal with and may not be able to give the help needed at that time. Another advantage is that if a child has a learning problem then he can be taught at a slower pace not needing to try and keep up with other students. Home schooling
