In the past, only a small amount of people were using mobile phones. However now, almost everyone owns a phone and some even own multiple phones. As technology has advanced, communication using mobile phones has also improved. Two of the main ways of communicating are text messaging and the old fashioned phone call.
The method chosen depends upon the goal of the user. When compared to voice calls there is a multitude of so-called benefits to SMS messaging. Voice calls are inherently more candid and genuine, and provide a higher degree of sincerity and intimacy. Texting has developed its own type of benefits and is considered a viable replacement for those benefits associated with voice calling, particularly to teenagers and young adults. Texts can be sent with a higher degree of privacy and are used when other forms of contact are not possible, not convenient, or not desired.
Technology has also changed the way people are educated. In some people’s minds we are way too dependent on technology. One example of this is a hiker getting lost due to relying on a GPS that fails and not having the ability to read a map. There are groups of people who avoid technology altogether.
