ENG 101 Should the Presence of Technology be Reduced? How much technology is too much? Do people carry too many gadgets? There is no denying the fact that technologies touches almost every aspect of our lives. The World Wide Web is becoming connected to almost every appliance and device in homes today. There are more devices connected to the internet than people on the entire planet (Bennett). Many people are completely dependent on technology in their daily lives. The medical field has become heavily reliant on technology. Technology has also changed the way people are educated. In some people’s minds we are way too dependent on technology. One example of this is a hiker getting lost due to relying on a GPS that fails and not having the ability to read a map. There are groups of people who avoid technology altogether. Some people actually suffer from technophobia, which is an abnormal fear or anxiety about the effects of advanced technology ("Technophobia"). Life in many ways has been improved with the advance in technology. Improved medical procedures and medication, safer vehicles, and access to a vast amount of information are just a few of the good things the technology has created. Still, some regulation of the use of technology in our lives needs to happen or people will continue their overreliance on technology. Technology has negative effects that will need to be recognized and resolved. People must realize that technology can fail, and they must use it responsibly. One day they may have to survive without it. First off, advanced medical techniques created by new technology has saved many people’s lives. Doctors and nurses can use the ease of access to information to learn new techniques and practices easily. This information would not have existed twenty years ago.
