Wright uses the gritty story of Bigger to warn whites that oppressing and degrading black Americans will perpetuate the violence and hatred. It don’t seem natural, but I reckon it’s so. (155) Huck struggles against all that was taught to him, and ultimately against what he knows is true due to his dealings with Jim. When Jim is captured, Huck’s first instinct was to report him to Miss Watson by letter since helping a slave was sinful. However, upon deeper reflection, he tears the letter and declares, “’All right, then, I’ll go to hell’” (214). Huck resolves to trade his own fate, and spend eternity in hell, for the fate of Jim and thereby acknowledging that Jim—a black man and a slave—is equal to himself.
On a day of independence celebrated by white people while enslaving the blacks of this American nation, there is no gratitude in which he can express and speaks this sarcastically. He is sad this day to rebuke the American people and calls them vain, hypocrites and cruel. Asking, “What to the American slave is your 4th of July?” and Douglass states too, the independence we rejoice in is “a sham!” This American nation rejoices in it’s independence from tyranny only to subject others to an even worse barbaric life of bondage. Douglass says to this cruel, hypocrite country that with their “revolting barbarity… America reigns without a rival”. Disbelief was my first thought, something along the lines of “No way!” which was then followed by an excited feeling and an audible “yes” as Douglass’s sarcastic tone turned to truth followed by ‘stern rebuke’(Douglass).
Elie Wiesel on the other hand incorporated various literary techniques to convey the message of Nazi’s brutality towards their Jewish prisoners. He referred to the haggard Jews as “wild beasts of prey, with animal hatred in their eyes…” (Wiesel 95). The Jews were reduced to behave like beasts due to lack of food and water. The Nazis purposely failed to provide the Jews with sufficient supplies. Withered and disgruntled, the Jews seek to fulfill the needs that had been deprived from them.
They made the claims that because they were uncivilized, this was a perfect justification for conquest. Europeans were looking for excuses to make Africa look like it needed European help; this made all African customs seem savage and not normal in the eyes of the Europeans. “Man on the TV Say” and “Inconvenient” embody the socioeconomic disparities present in New Orleans and reveal why so many were unable to flee, despite the mandated evacuations. “Man on the TV Say” describes a news anchor’s orders to leave the city in colloquial terms. “Go, he say. Pick up y’all black asses and run.” (7). The poem instructs the poor, African American residents of New Orleans to abandon their homes with their “splinters and pocked roofs”, to “leave the pork chops drifting in grease and onion”, and to “leave the whining dog” along with “that purple church hat”.

All Quiet on the Western Front is strictly anti-war, and describes it as a horrible, disgusting, and terrifying thing and is very slightly biased towards the Germans. Pro-war poetry glorifies war and makes it sound like an honorable, fun, and happy activity, and is biased towards the Allied Forces. The World Studies Textbook seems completely factual, but it shows bias at times towards the Allied Forces. All Quiet on the Western Front, pro-war poetry, and the World Studies Textbook, all contain bias, whether it is apparent or hidden, against the Central Powers, or for the Central powers, and they all are very different in the way that they portray war.
In Dry Tears: The Story of a Lost Childhood by Nechama Tec, there are many discriminative, stereotypical and prejudice events that take place throughout the book. The book is actually memoirs written by the author about how during World War II Nazis would raid villages to imprison and/or kill Jews and show what the Jews had to do to survive. The Nazis hated the Jews; they had unfavorable opinions about them, and were taught to treat them unfairly. They stereotyped the Jews as if all of them were bad and deserved to be punished. An event takes a big toll on the main character (Tec); when the Nazis separated her family.
This is the moment at which Stowe wants every 19th century reader to realize the full horror of slavery. Scenes of blood and cruelty are shocking to our ear and heart. What man has nerve to do, man has not nerve to hear. What brother-man and brother-Christian must suffer, cannot be told us, even in our secret chamber, it so harrows the soul! And yet, oh my country!
Miss Gates talks about how Hitler is evil for killing all the Jews, and how being prejudiced against someone for their religion is wrong, yet she is racist against black people. So, she is a hypocrite for saying it is wrong to judge someone by their religion, but it’s ok to judge black people for their colour.
