Fist Stick Knife Gun, an autobiography by Geoffrey Canada and “The Wave”, a nonfiction movie by Morton Rhue deal with the issue of influence. They both suggest that teenagers are easily persuaded into thinking a certain way; When adults tell them it is the right thing to do they catch on. Mr. Ross in “The Wave” taught his students that discipline and community were all you needed to have a strong group of people. Geoffrey Canada from Fist Stick Knife Gun thought that violence was the only answer as a child because that is all he ever knew. In both situations peoples thinking is influenced greatly by others around them.
When looking for books, online sources and movies, I never thought that the topic would be so political. Learning about the OWI for the first time really shocked me. It makes me wonder how many movies were written before the OWI could come along and change the script in order to boost morale. I attempted to look for controversial movies during this time that were "anti-war" but this task proved to be most difficult of all. Researching the information for my topic changed my outlook on early film.
When I was reading the book I was so surprised at how much Esme used multiple intelligences and different use of texts, media, visual, and other many good practices. Esme’s classroom was a canvas of stimuli and visuals. When told by a colleague that her room was distracting Esme thought to herself that the teacher in question was jealous. I have to agree with Esme, I believe the teacher was jealous of Esme’s enthusiasm, youth and spirit. The teacher may have genuinely been concerned with presenting too much information to students but through my classes at Sage, excessive stimuli is good of students with ADD because it gives them many things to focus on instead of causing behavioral problems.
If it wasn’t for Laurie realizing what was going on things could have gotten bad fast! As you can see these two pieces have the same theme, which is “I’m not a hero I just did what was right.” The characters have changed so much by this lesson. They have realized they have to take charge, and do the right thing. This theme affects students today almost every day. For example, there are students faced with bullying every day.
Learning to how to listen is a core; it should be a part of children’s education. If people know how to listen to the other people, it will help people have a good communication with other people. In the workplace, listening to the people it is means to respect to the other people. With the economy developing, more and more people don’t care how much the food and they always waste food. Because parents love their children, they allow their children waste food and they always satisfy what their children want to eat and don’t want to eat.
Talking about some skills, she need to learns how to differentiate between knowing her coworkers' feelings and control them so the work environment is not affected with the external situation. She has been acting very friendly because obviously, they are her friends but she needs to come up with some way to control them in their work. 2. Why did Grace have problems making changes and maintaining discipline when she first was promoted to a position that required leadership? The principal problem that Grace is facing is something very common nowadays.
A final point Alonso speaks is “Most damaging of all, perhaps, is the fact that professors are human beings and therefore they will sometimes grade examinations unfairly” (198). Alonso wants her audience to sympathize with teachers. She wants everyone to know that teachers can also go through daily life events that can cause them to be unfair when it comes to grading. Joy Alonso does not use as much pathos in this article as she could to get her point across, but there is still a sense of reaching and a reader can truly feel that she cares about the
Many teachers do not like “catching plagiarists and bringing them to academic justice.” As she states, it is not hard to just cite the author that originally had the information you are using (Bojar). Plagiarism is becoming a big problem in the school system. Many students do not understand what needs to be cited and what does not. The school system should teach students the proper way to cite, and they should teach them that copy and pasting is not writing a paper. According Bojar to students at the community college have a hard time juggling classes along with his or her family and a job.
In the movie, Mrs Gruwell showed great compassion and determination because the student had no interest in school or her but she still tried different methods and techniques to convince them that each of them is important that unity is power. The forming stage started when the teacher ask the group to change sits position, the second
I have already learnt a variety of facts about this town, and am already starting to feel empathy for children in my class. I have learnt that I know now to never predjuce any tiny fact about Maycomb as the consequences seem to be very serious, for example the case of Walter. If Scout ever dares to let her father read to her outside of school she will be in serious trouble. I hope the class understands me after a while, and that they respect me and are enthusiastic about learning. I hope the class continues to display courage, as that is a important theme of life that should not be ignored.
