Nothing.” The youth in the film are coming primarily from broken homes, with substance abuse, physical abuse, and sexual abuse. These youth see violence and dysfunction every single day of their lives. Society as a whole is quick to look the other way and immediately label these youth as “bad” rather than exploring the route of the problem. This social problem would go back to the early times in history when the Aboriginal people were exploited, driven off their lands, forced onto reserves and thrown into residential schools, where they learned nothing but abuse and punishment. The Aboriginal people lost their culture, their language, their sense of which they are, and their parenting skills.

The technical convention of close-up shots is used to show the importance of education through the facial expressions which show desperation, anger and joy of the families of children applying for charter schools. During the final scenes of the documentary, we learn that some children were accepted and some were not. This makes the reader sympathize with the children who were not accepted. The symbolic convention of body language is used to show the importance of education through Ruby’s actions in the isolated classroom. On the seventh page of the book, Ruby is focused on doing her work in an isolated classroom; Ruby seemed to ignore the fact that she was isolated and fully immersed herself in her textbooks.
When Richard and Harrison agree to fight themselves for money they end up humiliating themselves. For the two men are unable to fake a fight and are thus forced to actually injure one another due in part to the fear that the white viewers invoke on them. This fight in the end deeply ashamed Richard for it got him to realize that violence infects the black community in general, whether from within or from the white community’s imposed violence. When Richard grows up he moves to Chicago and joins the Communist movement. However he learns quickly that the police beat protesting Communists and Richard is forced to move from one outcast group to another, never truly escaping reality.
English 11 December 18, 2008 To Kill a Mockingbird Essay In the book To Kill a Mockingbird written by Harper Lee racism was discussed towards blacks. Those that disagreed with this crude behavior of this prejudices was also treated with disrespect and hated, merely for standing up for what they believed was wrong. The blacks were disliked for the color of their skin. The main plot of the story is when a black man name Tom Robinson was accused of the raping of a white girl, age nineteen name Mayella Violet Ewell. This allegations of the rape case upset many people.
In both cases, the person without power ended up feeling isolated and lonely. Another similarity between the two is that the person who was isolated and lonely was dehumanized by a "monster" and the affected person then went on to be a monster. In Grendel, the humans treated Grendel inhumanely, which lead him to become cruel and wicked towards others. The humans would not listen and did not bother to try and understand what he was saying. Instead, they attacked him for no reason.
