The list goes on I thought love was easy, but when I grew up the fantasy stopped. I soon found out that love is more complicated, there are fights, obsessions, and there isn’t always a happy ending. People confuse obsession for a person of the opposite sex with passionate love, but the two are completely different. Between love and stalking is just a thin line. Love is a healthy emotion between two people that comes in time, after investing feelings, positive and negative experiences all along.
Everybody has felt it at one time or another, be it for a person, pet, or even a non-living object. That feeling is love. Some people search for what seem their whole lifetimes for love, whereas others may seem to fall in and out of love on a regular basis. The word “love” now-a-days- has become so frequently used, that sometimes it lacks its true meaning. The Oxford Dictionary’s first and most basic definition of love is, “An intense feeling of deep affection” (Oxford).
Cosign Your Love: The Variations of Emotion in Ovid’s Metamorphoses Love, of many kinds, runs abound in Ovid’s Metamorphoses, though the end results are not always pleasant for those involved. The dictionary definition of love does not always refer to the emotion in a romantic or affectionate manner. Love can refer to a partner, a lover, a friend or a family member. Yet, it can also mean a strong need for something, as if love is one’s lifeline – or in some cases, cause of death. Like most stories in Metamorphoses, every story in Book III and Book IV always somehow wind back to the king of gods, Jupiter, whether it is through family connections or his own romantic (or tyrannical) conquests.
My Thesis is that love is irresistible to that who make it irresistible to themselves and, that’s why it has so much of a bittersweet style that follows along with it. First let realize that in the word love there is many types of love that are used and known to man today. We have Affection (a natural love) Friendship (an admiration love) Eros (passionate love) Charity (a sacrificial love) so love is shown to be a too general topic to just say one type of love is irresistible. Granted majority of people when you say love they think of relationships as in being in love. So we ourselves must ask don’t we love our mothers and fathers.
An example of someone pursuing a relationship for companionship is Rachel. She is the main characters wife who becomes promiscuous after their son, Carlton, dies. To describe this season in her life, she leaves a poem on Julian’s, the main character’s, pillow which has a line that reads, “a season of folly was all that I needed. Where is the love that once I called mine” (Phillips 140). Rachel is unable to deal with her life after Carlton dies, and she abuses sleeping pills to cope with her pain (Phillips 191).
Examine the impact of culture and beliefs on ones perception of love and marriage. Love and marriage are some things many of us think about regularly. Most people have certain thoughts and beliefs regarding love and they also have different perceptions on marriage. Our community and culture have major effects on our feelings and thoughts about love, as they are the things that mold you. It also can affect how you marry and the acceptance of your marriage or love in your community.
Love at first sight Introduction People swoon at the thought of falling instantly into love, and it's not intricate to observe where these epitomes come from - fairytales, romantic shows and, obviously, numerous romance work of fiction. Love might seem to move in inexplicable forms and there might be something to the cliché of lovebirds gawking into each other's eyes, a person can be inclined to gravitate towards the latter kind, being the doubting, scientific-minded realists, but can never accept the notion of “Love at first Sight” because it is better stated as “Lust at first sight”. It is evident that falling in love actually occurs over time, Love is an intense emotion of affection toward that special one. It's a caring and profound attraction that structures emotional affection. On the flip side, lust is a strong desire of a sexual nature in which physical traits are considered aesthetically pleasing or beautiful.
Unfortunately, not everyone gets to experience its wonders. That does not mean it does not exist. I will be explaining why love is so difficult to come by in the society we live in today: as well as clarifying why I am such a firm believer in true love. In hope that my opinion will have a positive impact on every non-believer that reads my essay. I will be starting off with the expectations we have of true love, with some examples.
Love is Weird “We are all a little weird, and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.” -Dr. Seuss This quote made more sense to me than any of the reading that I have done to understand love and any of the responses which I received from multiple family members and friends in finding out their personal definition of love. The male responses to my questioning their definition of love came in short answers, involving physical attraction and immediate feelings to another. The responses from females were lengthy and poetic, expressing the desire to know another persons deepest thoughts and emotions, to learn all about a person and to continue to grow in love with that person. It seems to me the contrast between these answers may help to explain our divorce rate! The most thoughtful response I received explained that love is as fundamental an element of life as is oxygen.
Definition of Love Some could argue that the meaning of love wraps around the idea of two individuals having lust, complete and total devotion to one another, and possessing an emotional bond. But the definition of love has, in fact, become a lost hope over the generations. It is something many people desire but are never able to obtain due to the over usage of the word and loss of its true definition. The portrayal of love has prominently changed over the course of time due to the fact that society believes that music and media define love. When it comes to defining love the array of meanings are limitless.
