Maycomb Times Volume 1, Issue 1 November 1, 1935 Tragedy Death of Bob Ewell By: Emily Montoya On August 17, 1935, Maycomb was witness to a trial that ended in tragedy for the accused Tom Robinson. He was accused for the rape of Mayella Ewell, the daughter of Bob Ewell, on November 21, 1934. Tom Robinson a black male, age 25, is married with three children, and this was not Tom’s first time in trouble with the law, he had gotten in a fight before. Tom Robinson was defended by lawyer Atticus Finch, who defended the accused with strong evidence, but, in the end, the evidence was not enough to prove Tom innocent.
