To Be A Hero Thomas J. Schlaack Davenport University This paper is a recollection on my time with my good friend Eric. In it I will talk briefly on our relationship and memories. A person with whom I hold a special significance to is a friend of mine; Eric. He and I lived together for about a year and became very close friends In 2006, I took a Greyhound bus on the very long and excruciating trip from Lansing, Michigan to the city of San Antonio, Texas to live with J’Lynn, another friend of mine. I remember getting off the bus and greeting my friend and getting into the car to go to Denny’s restaurant for breakfast. When we got there J’Lynn introduced me to our now mutual roommate Eric. I can never forget seeing this short cherub faced, buck toothed man in his army B.D.U.’s. He was a hyper and eccentric individual and seemed very excited to meet me. We sat down and started to eat and converse, instantly hitting it off in our discussions about video games and the most effective and efficient ways to eradicate the zombie horde in the immanent yet unlikely…show more content…
I guess in my mind he would have gone saving someone on the field or even better died an old man married with children and grand children. He was always a good person full of integrity and the clear vision of the right thing to do. Eric was always trying to help someone in every way that he could. In our video gaming he always had this catch phrase, which I asked him about and he told me “Did you ever notice that even in games I play good characters; I never play a bad guy, I always want to be the shining hero. so I came up with the phrase “To Be A Hero”. Thinking back on this it personified Eric in every way he wasn’t a liar or a jerk he always was seeking how to be a better person and to be that shining hero. He succeeded. Eric is and will forever be MY
