His wife got her four children on deck and knelt with them to pray. All the girls had given their lives to Jesus, so she prayed that God might spare them if possible but if not, all of them were prepared to die and meet the Savior. A few minutes later the ship sank, and all of them were tossed into the water. People in a life-boat that had been launched saw his wife struggling in the water pulled her to safety, but none of the children could be located. On Dec. 1st, his wife landed at Cardiff, Wales, and tabled the message to him “Saved alone”.

The team heads toward a small lighthouse, in hopes of being rescued. The crashing breaking waves convince the men that even though the shore is in sight, the boat will not make it so they turn back out to sea. Their morale is further trampled when they see people on the beach waving to them, but no one makes a move to help. By the second day they decide to push through the surf as far as they can and then abandon the boat and swim for shore. Before they could make a volunteer exit, a wave upends the boat and dumps them into the icy sea.

As the boat does a sharp turn, I tighten my grip and can feel my muscles burn in my arms. I then feel my body sliding to the edge of the tube and I am sure I am a goner! My leg dips off into the cool rushing water making it numb. I manage to pull myself up but I feel the hard water spraying up into my face and I am unable to see what is ahead. Then I feel a large wave underneath us lifting the tube and dropping us with a hard thud back onto the surface of the water.

The Poem ‘The Lady of Shalott ‘tells the story of a woman locked away in a castle, on an island called Shalott. She spends her time weaving a tapestry of the things she sees in a mirror, as she cannot look out the window because of a curse. Sir Lancelot passes by one day and so she looks out the window and the curse is upon her. She then leaves the tower, gets on a boat and writes ‘The Lady of Shalott’ on it. As she floats down the river, her blood freezes and the lady dies.
After the death of Angela’s infant daughter, Margaret, Angela falls into a deep depression. The McCourts move to Limerick, Ireland to see support from Angela’s family. As the ship pulls away from New York harbor, and the site of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island fade away, Angela’s becomes sea sick and vomits over the railing of the ship. Illness caused by the rough waters of the Atlantic symbolizes the tough time ahead for the McCourt family. Water and illness become a predominant theme in the novel.
As being a captain and had been fishing professionally for 15 years, Linda faced many obstacles and problems such as personal issue, crew problem or the competition with others boat … she has to make good decisions in order to ensure the survival of the boat and reach her ultimate goal, which is to catch as many fish as possible. Fisherman is a hard and difficult job, especially for women. Linda Greenlaw has many personal problems that other men captain haven’t. She is a captain of the boat, she is a fisherman so she has no time for her family, for finding a boyfriend or a relationship. As she said, “My entire world was fishing.

Unfortunately she allowed him to swim out to sea one day and caused him to drown so that his uncle who was her lover could inherit his money. Vera Claythorne was tormented with the guilt of her crime and was also the last survivor of the novel. However in the novel Vera was portrayed very different. She did not hang herself in the novel
