And then there were none is a novel written by Agatha Christie who was the world’s best crime/ detective writer. This novel is about 10 people who are invited to a remote island in England called Soldier Island. The only way to get to this island is by boat and when they arrived they found the host and hostess are delayed in London. After introducing themselves to each other, they all noticed 10 little soldiers in the middle of the dinner table. Suspense filled the room when a ominous recording is played accusing every guest in the house of crimes they had committed. After one guest had died of poisoning on the first night and another the following morning, the mystery of the unknown murderer is questioned after every death as each guests die one by one. And most importantly who will be the next victim. The setting of the film is vastly different to the setting in the novel. For example in the novel the plot was set on Soldier Island. On the other hand in the film the plot was set in the desert of Africa. Although the setting is different, the mood still stayed the same. it was dark and sinister with a sense of irony. The weather played a major role in both the film and novel. The weather was fine and sunny when they were on their way to their destination but when they arrived, the weather changed completely, it became dark and rainy. My favourite character in the novel was Vera Claythorne. She is a young teacher, who was once a governess. She was responsible for the death of Cyril Hamilton the chid she was supposed to look after. Unfortunately she allowed him to swim out to sea one day and caused him to drown so that his uncle who was her lover could inherit his money. Vera Claythorne was tormented with the guilt of her crime and was also the last survivor of the novel. However in the novel Vera was portrayed very different. She did not hang herself in the novel
