Essay – “The right to own a gun, right or wrong?” 80 million Americans own guns and 40-45% of households in the U.S. contain a gun. Most people think that having a gun may protect you well. People think that if you have a gun, it is your first line of protection against other criminals. Do the advantages of the right to carry a gun outweigh the disadvantages? Even though owning a gun is mostly seen as a terrifying thing, there are many home security advantages of owning a gun if you use it accurately. It is important to understand how to use the gun if you own it. One advantage of owning a gun is that it gives you protection and security at home. You know that you have a way to protect yourself if your house will be attacked. When carrying a gun, you will better be able to protect yourself and your family and you might even be able to scare away the criminals or attackers just because you have a gun at home. Although, there are also disadvantages of owning a gun that all people needs to be aware of. First of all, having a gun at home can increase the risk for accidents inside the home. If you have a child, it is possible that they will get a hold of the gun. Since children do not understand the risks with guns, they might haphazardly shoot a friend or a sibling, thinking that that they are playing. In my opinion, I do not think that you should have the right to carry a gun in Sweden unless you have an interest in using it in competitions or hunting. I think that it should still be illegal to carry guns in public places, because you can get angry and then use the gun for the wrong purposes, such as robbing and threatening.
