Mental health is a severe problem that affects many individual’s way of thinking, their feelings, and how they behave in several different ways. Professionals need to acquire the right skills and characteristics to properly handle these mental health patients. Studying criminal justice at the University of Phoenix has opened up opportunities for me to learn more about working in the human services field. These theories assist counselors in communicating plans coherently of treatment goals for clients. A counselor may have many thoughts, ideas, or feelings about why clients seek therapy and how clients can learn to change. However, having a model or models as a guide can lead to success with treatment ideas for clients. More important, models are scientifically researched and have sets of values about why clients come to therapy and how clients can change. The initial consultation is a chance for the person receiving therapy to understand is going to happen during hypnosis and what they can expect from the treatment An initial consultation form could be sent to clients to fill and return before the interview in order to give the therapist a better idea of the questions to ask when they meet. The questions asked in a initial consultation form should cover basic details such as the clients name and address and it is important to remember to ask what name they like to be known by and what is a suitable time to make contact and whether or not it is appropriate to contact them on the numbers given, there are clients who would perhaps not want to be contacted on a work number or in the evening in front of their family and it is important their wishes are respected as a matter of confidentiality. Many people are still wary of this kind of therapy and have misconceptions on how much control they have during the session and a usual concern for clients to have is could they be made to anything they wouldn’t do normally such as cluck like a chicken every time they hear the word lotto. This is a good opportunity to build up a rapport with the client and discuss any fears they might have and to reassure them. The client will often feel vulnerable and is to all intents laying bare inner secrets that would not normally share with a complete stranger so by reassuring
As it is the first meeting it is good to determine the continuing relationship which will progress during the therapy. When a therapist first meets with a new client it’s necessary to establish several things in order to know whether they can work together. These include background and personal circumstances of the client, previous experiences (if any) of therapy, medical and psychiatric history and very importantly, why they are seeking therapy. From the therapist side of things it is a means of assessing whether he/ she is going to offer effective support and be of use to the client. As an example; this may not be an issue that is suitable for hypnotherapy at all or unlikely to be beneficial to the client.
Planning your team’s work One way to check that team members understand what work required of them is to obtain feedback from them. For example, when team members are given unfamiliar work to do, I will discuss with them how they plan to complete the task, offer advice, suggest where and how to find relevant information and ask to be kept informed of their progress. Monitoring your team’s work To monitor work: hold regular team meetings to discuss targets and workload. Ask for comments and suggestions, identify problem areas, but also discuss what is working well and how this might be applied to the problem areas. With a “mature” team this approach is quite successful in that team members feel comfortable sharing their views and feel able to ask for help with their work.

Evaluate the role of listening skills in the process of counselling INTRODUCTION THE PROCESS OF COUNSELLING There may be an initial period before actual counselling sessions begin where the client may be evaluated to see if counselling is the proper treatment to solve their particular issues. This assessment allows the counsellor to determine if their exacting methods of counselling will be of any help to that particular client. Assessments also give the client a view of what counselling involves and lets the counsellor see if client and counsellor can bond. In the first stage of counselling the counsellor will explain what will be included in sessions and both counsellor and client will agree on the targets the client will aim to achieve. As the client unloads their worries the counsellor listens to them using their skills to pick up on certain elements of the client’s story that will be explored to help the client understand their feelings and actions.
