The Effects of the Urban and Rural Living Differences

As we all know, there are very contrast differences between the urban and rural living. It can be seen from the situation between those places. The situation in urban, like Jakarta is very crowded, hectic, and full of traffic jam. Meanwhile, the situation in rural, like Klaten, Central Java, Indonesia is very peaceful, relaxing, and no traffic jammed at all. These kinds of differences not only affect to the characters of people who live in those places but also affect the feeding habit. Jakarta with busy, hectic, crowded, and full of traffic jammed situation shapes the characters of people who live in Jakarta to become individualist and always in a hurry. It is caused by people who live in Jakarta tend to leave home for work or school in very early morning. If they leave the house 10 to 15 minutes late, they will get trapped in the middle of the traffic jammed. Then, when they want to return home, they will get trapped in the middle of traffic jammed because everybody wants the same thing, to return home as soon as possible. Meanwhile they have to leave home very early to get to their destinations and get home very late, they do not have enough time to socialize themselves with their environment and also have no time to prepare the proper food to eat. Automatically, they will try to find the simplest way to get the quick-served-meal. The fast food restaurant will be the best solution for their need of food, besides the quick-served-meal contains of high calorie and less nutrition. Fast food is not good for people’s health. If it is being consumed in a long term, it will cause the obesity and might be other dangerous diseases. The other ways happen in Klaten, as the represent of rural area. Klaten is very relaxing, no traffic jammed, and peaceful. In Klaten, there is a maxim: “alon-alon waton kelakon”. These kinds of atmosphere create very sociable people because
