Social Problems of Animal Cruelty The continual stance of disagreements among people often leads to social problems, or what Del Mar College defines as “societal induced conditions that harms any segment of the population.” In which there’s a lot of social problems, such as abortion, unemployment, taxes, racial discrimination, legalization of marijuana and much more. Among all these there’s the social problem of animal cruelty. Every state has law prohibiting cruelty to animals. These laws may not give animals rights but it gives them the hope of stopping people from committing abuse against them. The Penal Code, Title 9, Chapter 42, 42.09, states that in the state of Texas; animal cruelty has a fine up to $4,000, and imprisonment up to one year. Also torturing, killing, fighting, and much more lead up to a $10,000 fine and imprisonment from 180 days to 2 years. Those under the age of 18 years old are also required to undergo counseling if convicted of animal cruelty. Section 42.10 of the Texas Penal Code prohibits dog and cockfighting, and also attending or participation in earnings or operating a dog or cockfighting facility. These laws will alleviate the problem. The thing is that judges should take animal cases more serious and charge people with animal abuse instead of just letting the case pass by and ignoring it. Also, people should start following this laws and treating animals better. If you take a pet into your house you take it in as a member of your family not as some animal you’re going to use to fight or abuse. These laws are a good solution, but if people don’t follow them then they aren’t working and there should be harsher laws towards animal cruelty. Like I believe if a person is taking the commitment to take a pet into there house they should keep him, and not just because you got tired of him you go throw him at the dog pound. If you are
