Moore Money Michael Moore is a prominent filmmaker who mainly bases his work around documentaries. Moore’s most famous piece of work is his influential documentary “Bowling for Columbine” however it contains insidious manipulation and ruthless misdirection of the audience. Moore uses the 1999 Columbine High School massacre as his hook to draw the viewers in by highlighting the death of young students by guns. However many viewers do not realise that documentaries are only a version of reality.
They also injured 27additional students during this attack. The two suspects later committed suicide. This attack was considered one of the deadliest mass murders committed on an American high school campus until the Virginia Tech shooting in April 16, 2007. These incidents sparked debate over gun control laws, and the availability of firearms to public within the United States. Also, gun violence involving juveniles is one of the current topics on daily news and television.

Columbine Massacre Tuesday, April 20, 1999 at 11:19 AM, a witness heard Eric Harris yell, “Go! Go!” (Wikipedia). Two teenage student of Columbine high, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, arrived at school with an arsenal full of weapons ready to reap revenge on all those who had done them wrong. After the hour-long rampage and the chaos was over twelve students and a teacher were dead, twenty-four others were wounded and the two shooters had committed suicide. This massacre has provoked much debate into the issues of gun control and availability of firearms in the United States, as well as high school cliques, bullying and the role of violent movies and video games in American society.

It was made on a budget of 4.3 million dollars and turned over a worldwide profit of 58 million dollars. The film sees Michael Moore investigate America's obsession with guns, and the gun culture, in his own unique fashion using the Columbine Massacre as a back drop. The target audience is mainly in the age range of 15 to 25 year olds which are statistically most likely to go to the cinema and watch the film and people who are genuinely concerned about the issue of gun ownership in America. It is also aimed mainly at an American audience as all of the events which are discussed are in America.
Bryan Cook Mr. Araujo November 8, 2011 Final Essay #2 Précis Paul Meyer’s article, “Texas College with Violent Past Weighs Gun Measure” informs that at the University of Texas, which has more than 50,000 students, the debate resonates with both distant and recent history about being able to conceal handguns on Texas college campus grounds. a proposed law that is being worked out among political parties would make Texas one of the few places in the nation where faculty, staff and students with concealed handgun licenses could bring guns inside campus buildings. Supporters of this movement say “it would give them the same rights of self-defense they have off campus and could help prevent massacres like the one at Virginia Tech that claimed 32 lives in 2007”. Meyer backs his claim by giving examples like the University of Texas clock tower massacre in the summer of 1966; this shooting killed 14 people and seared the threat of school violence into American consciousness. Also, last September, a 19 year-old gunman wielding an AK-47 assault rifle terrorized the campus before killing himself on the sixth floor of the library.
There are people who are mentally ill that are able to purchase guns with the intent of killing people. Laws for purchasing guns should be strengthened. A simple background check should not be the only thing in the way of a person purchasing weapons. The National Rifle Association was founded in 1871 as a sporting and hunting association, they supported most gun control regulation for its first 100 years. Now the National Rifle Association members are in favor requiring an extensive background check, and “69 percent support requiring all gun sellers at gun shows to conduct criminal background checks of the people buying guns; 59 percent favor mandatory registration of handguns; and 77 percent favor a waiting period for the purchase of a handgun.” All of these are would make it harder for people to purchase guns and allow proper documentation for every gun.

Gun Control In my speech, I will be an American liberal talking to a room full of American Congress members along with other prominent figures, human rights activists, and politicians. I will be discussing the current gun control laws in the United States of America. Hook: Good Evening Congress members, human rights activists, and politicians, In 2015 alone, there were 372 mass shootings, killing 475 people and wounding 1,870 others (Oldham). On average, that is more that one mass shooting a day. Following such tragedies, some politicians prepare a speech regarding the matter, sending the victims and the victims families their thoughts and prayers.
In our country nearly one half of households own a gun and nearly thirty thousand people die each year from gun shot related wounds (Smock 151). It is because of statistics like these that gun control has become one of the most heated issues that our country is currently facing. While it is obvious that guns are dangerous weapons that must be used responsibly, many people are debating whether or not stricter laws should be put in to place in an attempt to lower the harms caused by guns. Many states and cities across the nation have already established laws that have made it harder for people to get their hands on guns. Many extremists have even asked for guns to be completely taken out of the hands of everyday citizens.
