Referral Agencies Assignment Victim support. Victim Support is the independent charity for victims and witnesses of crime in England and Wales. They were set up over 38 years ago and have grown to become the oldest and largest victims' organization in the world. Every year, they contact over 1.5 million people after a crime to offer their help. They depend on thousands of specially-trained volunteers to deliver their services and although they work closely with the police and other parts of the criminal justice system, they are an independent charity. They can arrange visits to your home or somewhere else that you feel safe. They will be there for as long as you need them. They work with a wide range of charities to help you find the strength for a wide range of situations. (3.3.1) If you have witnessed a crime they can help you to cope with going to court by giving you information and support. The Witness Service can give you: Someone to talk to about how you're feeling before a trial Information about what to expect in court, including a chance to see the court beforehand and learn about court procedures. Someone to go with you into the courtroom if you want, to help you feel more at-ease. A chance to talk over the case when it has ended and to get more help or information. (3.2.2). Volunteering with victim support will help me develop new skills such as communication, team work and time management. It will also show that I am committed, can deal with responsibility , prioritise work and have good listening skills, which are very important.
