Immigration In America In the late 19th century and early 20th century, millions of immigrants entered into the United States of America. Many of these immigrants came to America because they face persecution in their homelands. The immigrants were promised a new land of prosperity, riches, and freedom from persecution. But when many arrived they found out that this was not true and many of them still faced persecution and struggled to make enough money to live and eat well. Many of the immigrants had their own personal reasons to move to America, but there were some major push and pull factors that brought them here.
For many of the migrants from the mid United States in the 1930’s, the prospect of going to California inspired hope and promise. These ideas changed when the migrants found out that the Promise Land was not all that they had hoped for. The members of the Joad family are prime examples of this very experience in John Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath. The Joads, a family from Oklahoma, plan on leaving their native state to go seek work in the prosperous state of California where the sun always shines. The Joads and the other traveling families would soon change their mind when they see that California was a place of despair and poverty amongst migrant workers.
The color yellow is significant in the book; it symbolizes wealth and illness. Along time ago, Daisy left Gatsby because Gatsby was poor. So Gatsby gained his fortune by “bootlegging” (Fitzgerald 114) or dealings with crime. Accordingly to the “American Dream”, money should be earned through hard work and be a reward for honesty. Gatsby used to be very poor and always wanted to be rich.
The Settlers were really greedy and wanted to take everything. I think a difference is that the Settlers were power hungry and the Native Americans were to inviting and friendly towards the Settlers. The Settlers were just waiting for their chance to rape Native American lands. Settlers in the east were settled and lived in established states. But they wanted much more land.
These traders quickly found a way to exploit the Indians by causing them to incur debt so large that they would eventually have to surrender their land to the trader, although some traders were killed by Indians who became fed up with their crooked dealing, some of the traders made huge amounts of money from these transactions. This juncture creates a huge schism between class and race essentially because the Europeans were able to capture the lands of the natives at the same time as gaining large amounts of money, and with taking the land of these people as debt payment they essentially took their last bit of real economic power they had leaving them with only their skills as assets. Essentially from there on out the Indians did what they had to do in order to survive in this world for men this usually meant hunting and selling skins, as they were doing often before, and the Indian women would use their crafting skills in order to make a living often traveling to place to place as they did so. However, not all of the
As Europeans started migrating in great numbers, they wanted to expand into the west more. Thus the vast expansion into the Native American territories created more tension and forceful removal of the Indians. Immigrants were also weary of these “savages”, they called. So they would
This revolution was a changing point for us in history because it almost affected all of the working habits that we do in our daily lives. It took place in the 1700s and also the early 1800s. The Industrial Revolution began in Great Britain and it spread through the world quite quickly. The Industrial Revolution impacted American society economically when the invention of machines to do work of hand tools. These machines must’ve taken many jobs away because if they can do it, people aren’t needed anymore.
The capitalism created the conditions which lead to the depression. Its effect was tremendous because thee money they used was gold; when Roosevelt started he took all of the gold; this lead to people becoming broke and they could no longer use the gold pieces. The stock market was full of investors whom invested in gold; with no more gold their money was useless. Roosevelt finally tried to increase the number of Supreme Court Justices and this also was a conflict with the principle of checks and balances. Capitalism was involved causing money to disappear and a lot of citizens became broke which effected most of the communities people to become homeless or broke.
America Founded on dissent, America has grown to be the third most populist nation in the world today. “Dissent helped shape America...” (Hayden.) Dissidents such as Anne Hutchinson, Ben Franklin, and Daniel Boone all settled on the frontier. “The frontier provided an opportunity for a new start for millions until the Census Bureau declared it was closed in 1890.” (Barone) After the frontier failed there was a movement embraced by Americans who were trying to achieve new goals and create new backgrounds for themselves during the early twentieth century. During the movement, Americans focused on a more social reform to improve their lifestyles and well-being.
Healthcare is forever changing but is also becoming more and more diverse daily. A lot of organizations struggle in this area as they do not understand the importance of properly managing diversity. As the VP of HR it’s my responsibility to encourage and nurture the group of diverse individuals as they can often bring more innovative ideas, perspectives and views to their work and the organization as a whole. With the mixture of talents of diverse cultural backgrounds, genders, ages and lifestyles, an organization can respond to business opportunities more rapidly and creatively, especially in the global arena which must be one of the important organizational goals to be attained. More importantly, if the organizational environment does not support diversity broadly, one risks losing talent to competitors (Rosenberg, 2008).
