In the Values and Ethics class, I learned the social work values of service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, integrity and professional competence. These values allow for the empowerment of social work clients that are usually the most oppressed and vulnerable persons-in-environment. I further learned that we as professional social workers must put aside our own personal values and ethics and foremost elevate the diverse needs of the social work clients we serve. I must be self-aware and continuously engage in self-reflection throughout my social work career to maintain firm boundaries between personal and professional values and ethics systems. This self-reflection encompasses careful examination and utilization of the professional Social Work Code of Ethics to promote social justice, diversity and self-determination.
My personal ethics lens includes my personal actions and behaviors, my core values, and responsibilities. My personal preferred lens is the results lens and the reputation lens. I sensibly listen to my intuition to determine the best for everyone and the character traits and ethic beliefs that will best suit my fellow classmates. I am sometimes content with too little and have unrealistic role expectations, relying too much on the virtues related to someone’s role, absent to the fact that others can fail regardless of their part in the project. However, I am very self-reliant and posses accountability.
Using the Center for Writing Excellence and MyFoundationsLab resources, provide the topic sentence and informal outline for your Personal Ethics Statement. • Topic sentence: Ethics are so much more than just a system, they determine how we live our lives and the lives of those around us. After reviewing my Ethical Lens Inventory (Results Lens, Reputation Lens), it states that I demonstrate a balance between myself and others. I take interest in each individual situation. I manage to bring optimism, imagination, positivity, empathy and courage while avoiding making rash decisions.
PERSONAL ETHICS STRUCTURE PERSONAL DECISIONS AND BEHAVIORS, AND PROVIDE A GUIDE POST FOR MORAL ACTIONS (RUGGIERO, 2008). IT IS WHAT INDIVIDUALS HAVE BEEN TAUGHT FROM THE TIME INDIVIDUALS BEGAN TO FORMULATE SENTENCES. IT IS THE INNER THOUGHTS INSTILLED IN EVERY INDIVIDUAL. PERSONAL ETHICS IS DEEPLY INNER CONVICTIONS ESTABLISHED FROM FAMILY, COMMUNITY, AND EXPERIENCE. REGARDLESS OF THE SITUATION THE UTMOST RESPECT FOR HUMAN DECORUM SHOULD BE UPHELD AT ALL TIMES.
My Personal Code of Ethics I have dreams and goals for the future that I am determined to make them happen, and I don’t expect anyone to do the hard work for me. Living an ethical and moral life is both a function of my personal ideals and those around me aiding me to maintain these ideals. I am trying to conduct my life based on my personal values and on defining some guiding principles, applicable in both personal and professional lives. My personal values act as a basis for distinguishing between right and wrong and thus, determine my daily actions and emotions. My parents and education have played profound roles in the development of my core personal values: personal integrity, caring, excellence, attitude, responsibility, family and ambition.
It was now my responsibility to show others how to become leaders. This will make me a better citizen of the United States because I will have the skills to become a leader in my community. My continuing preparation for good citizenship involves the ethical code of conduct: honor. This is something that is not taught in any other class in high school. I expect myself, and others, to be honest, to be cadets with integrity, and to exemplify ethical behavior.
It says that my gift is compassion and that is true because I am compassionate about the things I want and am trying to accomplish in life and I show compassion towards others and their problems. The Ethical Lens said that I define an ethical person as one with sound character traits and habits of thoughtful reflection. It also said that I believe that those who demonstrate strong leadership in their roles and who encourage others to do the same exemplify ethical behavior. I would have to agree with this assessment because I definitely expect others to display this type of ethical behavior. Though I know this is expected of people, I am however, not nieve to how people can really be.

It is really imperative that I must consider the ethical aspects when formulating planning outcomes and goals for each of my clients. The code of ethics helps me justify and substantiate my nursing actions in making wise decisions. Throughout the planning phase of the nursing process, autonomy is the major ethical principle that must be taken into consideration. It is necessary during the planning process to involve my client in the decision-making process, by valuing their thoughts, aspirations and demands when planning goals or outcomes. People of different culture and religious beliefs became ubiquitous in my society, community, and also in my workplace.
