Trident University Module 2 Case Assignment MGT302 – Org. Behavior and Teamwork Introduction To be virtual or not to be virtual; that is the question. So many employees and managers in collocated work environments would jump at the opportunity to become a virtual employee or manager. However, being a virtual employee and/or manager presents its own set of challenges. We will explore the challenges that face both manager and employee and how the challenges can be overcome in both the physical office or in the cyberspace office. Body Collocated teams face a number of challenges that have been present for centuries, how to accomplish the task at hand and how get along doing it. While groups are "particularly good at combining talents and providing innovative solutions" How to get along has plagued families, groups, teams, and societies since the beginning of time. What are these challenges? Personality types for starters. Gerard M. Blair wrote in his online published article, Groups that Work, talks about two particular types of personalities; the mouse and the loud-mouth. The mouse is the "quiet one in the corner who doesn't say much" and the loud-mouth, the "dominate member whose opinions form a disproportionate share of the discussion" (Blair, n.d.). Everyone in a group should have an equal say in how to accomplish the task at hand. As a manager, the goal would be to get the loud-mouth to briefly summarize their opinion, and the mouse should be called on specifically to state their opinion. A few strategies can assist collocated employees in groups to accomplish tasks; active communication being the first and most important. Managers should call on their employees to actively express their ideas. The speaker should be "clear and concise" and the listeners in the group should actively seek "to understand what has been said and to ask for
