Making College Count: Intellectual Analysis

When I first began my college search and how I would like to spend the next four or five years studying my goal was to move far away. I looked at various institutions, ranging from the Carolinas to Tennessee. The closest place I was really interested was two hours away from my house, The Ohio State University. When I told my parents about my college list they were very supportive; besides my father, who was not the biggest OSU fan, but he respected my decision anyway. My brother on the other hand, who was not an OSU fan either, was not that happy with my choices. His one and only question was “What about UC?” I told him I was not very interested in UC because it is only 5 minutes from my house and I did not was to be that close to home. Some chapters that really spoke to me would be the chapters on time management, getting good grades, and working towards success. I really paid attention to the time management section the most. Since I really like to be active and busy all the time, I tend to bite off more than I can chew. I need to find a happy medium between working and playing. I am going to use some techniques described in this section such as scheduling early classes, studying in between classes and when I am studying, actually focusing. This quarter my latest class starts at 9 a.m., and my earliest class is 8 a.m. This already shows how I put this section into effect. I plan on scheduling my classes early like this for the rest of my college career that way I can get an early start every day. I try to study in between my classes during my two hour breaks on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays so I don’t fall behind in my schoolwork. Lastly for this section, I plan on changing up my study habits. In grade school all the way up until senior year of high school, I made it a habit to study and do homework in front of my television. Now, that will not happen. I am only going to study and do homework while sitting in silence or while listening to instrumental music. The section on how good do your grades have to be really helped me relax a little bit. I am somewhat of a perfectionist when it comes to my grades. I strive for that 4.0 GPA, and because of this I get stressed on occasions. This section has made me realize that a 3.4 or 3.5 would still put me in great shape for my future. This allows me to relax a little more and take in the experience of college. One last section that spoke to me directly was the “jobs during college” section; I have always had a job while in school.
