“Evaluate the effectiveness of the domestic and international legal system in dealing with international crime” When it comes to dealing with international crime the domestic and international legal systems have been quite effective in dealing with the issues in an appropriate manner. Domestic responses to the issue of international crime are specific to the category of international crime they are dealing with; it encompasses treaties, legislation, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and statutory bodies. International legal measures for dealing with international crime include the use of international treaties, courts, tribunals and cooperation between national and sub-national organisations and governments. International crimes can be placed into three main categories; Crimes committed outside the jurisdiction of our country, Transnational Crimes and Crimes committed against the international community. Crimes committed outside the jurisdiction of our country is when Australian citizens commit crimes in other countries, some of which may still be tried and sentenced in Australia. An example of this is the case of Schapelle Corby and the ‘Bali Nine’. Transnational crime involves crimes that break the law in more then one country, for example people trafficking, drug trafficking and money…show more content…
The AFP role in combating transnational crime includes posts in more than 25 countries, monitoring and peacekeeping and specialized training for international law enforcement agencies to help prevent transnational crime. This encompasses dealing with transnational crimes such as child protection, counter-terrorism, human trafficking and drug operations.
