My son Kaleb was born May 24 2008, and from that moment on I wanted to give him everything he deserves. I tried to go back to college right after my son was born, but I had no idea what I wanted to do for my future and taking care of Kaleb wasn't cheap. I was constantly working to pay for the expenses of Kaleb, while paying for the rest of the expenses I had. Finally four years later, I made the best decision I could for my family and that was going back to school. One of the many reasons why I came back was that I did not was to continue being in a factory the rest of my life.
* Tactile ~ Lastly I am a Tactile Learner. I learn by touching and doing. I understand and remember things through physical movement. I am a "hands-on" learner who prefers to touch, move, build, or draw what I learn, and I tend to learn better when some type of physical activity is involved. I need to be active and take frequent breaks, I often speak with my hands and with hand gestures, and I may have difficulty sitting still.
Informal mentoring can be more beneficial than the courses available as you can be shown ways to improve whilst carrying out your role on site and provide support when needed. Where feedback points out weaknesses alike they should be valued, we are all learning all the time and to improve is to target weaknesses and build on ones own strengths.
Others go to college with a fork in the road outlook on college. They assume they are going to fail or if they are they are going to succeed. This group of people has a fixed mindset. When I first went to college, I had a bit of both. I knew I could succeed in whatever I wanted to do with my life, but the problem was I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life.

Anytime I was asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I would quickly reply” a lawyer” As the years went by I still had that goal in mind, but I began to realize that I was not exactly Ivy League material. Though I did work really hard in my classes, I was still at best average. During my junior year I took my SAT’s, and cried when I got my scores back. For many years I was scared to go to college because I thought I wasn’t college material.

They do not have any student input at all with them and they read like a laundry list. In comparison to the best practices, “Suggests that students should actively participate in the creation of guidelines governing classroom behavior. This belief suggests that students will support rules they establish. Best practices recommend minimizing the number of rules. Children have a tendency to recommend a laundry list of rules.”(Dunbar, 2004) In my teaching career, this is not a move I would recommend.
VARK is a magnificent tool online that simply helps identify the different types of learning styles that are out there and helps guide individuals in the right path as far as learning goes. VARK stands for Visual, Aural, Read/write, and last but not least Kinesthetic. Visual, Aural, and Read/write mean exactly what they say. These individuals learn best by doing just that. Visual learners need to see things in order to learn, aural learners are better when they hear the information, and reading/writing learners perform best reading information and writing it down.
While I have had a pretty successful career thus far I know that not having a degree has held me back from reaching my full potential. I settled into a nice comfy position and tried to make myself believe that I did not need a degree. As time went on I developed a fear of returning to school and always found an excuse to not go.
