People who go to college now pay to go there and if they fail a class they just wasted a lot of money. If the government paid for everyone’s education then no one would think they would have to work hard and they would think they would have to work hard and they would end up failing once they moved in to there career. The only people that deserve to go to college for free are people that earn a scholarship or those who apply for financial aide. These programs are there for the people that have the desire to go to college. Most people that think a higher education should be free are not very wealth but there are programs like financial aide to help them if they have the desire to get a higher education.
A college education, in the world today, allows you to advance in society and earn more money no matter what level you achieve. The workforce is changing so fast regarding degree level to have. When I was graduation high school most people were only obtaining an associate degree. Now the workforce requires you to have a minimal of a bachelor degree for entry level jobs. With the struggles of inflation and the lack of well paying jobs for the young graduates, affording an education after high school is almost impossible.
I have been thinking of it as me having no money. That has limited me in solutions because the root problem was not correctly defined. This has impacted me by limiting my efforts of forming a solution. With spending time in school in my mind I seem to have tricked myself into not understanding why I do not have in money or source of income. In the military I was paid for schooling and having spent the past ten years in the service I just automatically assume that I should have money.
The harder we work; the better our future will be. Every one of us defines rewards in a different way. For some of us rewards could mean money. For some others, rewards mean social status, job status, and life style. For some people rewards are not necessary, because they do not need them to be successful in life.
I feel like money is often mistaken with happiness so people worry less about what makes them happy than what makes them money. I can’t bring myself to do this so I am here to prepare myself for my future career and not my future job. I’m not going to say that my education means everything to me but it is very important. It is the one thing I need to achieve the things that I have planned for myself. It is the difference between having a career and having a job.
Although Vedder’s argument is somewhat convincing because he points out the economic problems of a college education, he neglects educational benefits that students could get from a college education. First of all, Vedder argues that students with poor high school grades will most likely drop out and/or not get a good job even with college degrees. However, he doesn’t consider that there are some students who become motivated and attain high academic accomplishments due to positive effects of learning assistance programs in college. It might be true that students with poor grades would continue having bad studying skills and challenging time management problems, but there are many learning assistance programs that are available for students who want to improve their studying skills, such as tutoring services and learning strategy workshops. For example, Seattle University, from which I graduated, had great learning assistance programs.
The use of temporary workers helps the business to maintain staffing flexibility and reduces hiring costs. In my opinion, temporary workers are as important as regular employees and there should be laws assuring them access to the same or similar benefits. Even though it is often believed temporary employees do not want to devote their time and loyalty to any employer and that is why should not get basic benefits such as health insurance or retirement benefits, it seems to me that temporary workers play a significant role to businesses in terms of lowering costs and should not be left on their own without any laws and regulations protecting their privileges. same provisions, employees may be appointed to subsequent temporary appointments in different departments. Benefits for eligible temporary employees include the following: health and life insurance, sick and vacation leave, holiday pay, injury leave, civil leave, and military leave.
Now what’s a con to having scholarships and fellowships taxed? Well if you’re like most people in America you can’t pay for your college up front so have to take out loans and scholarships to help support you going to school? No matter who you are college isn’t cheap now if the scholarships and fellowships are taxed that’s less money that actually gets to the school so you end up paying more. Also would have more debt. For some people that’s the only way that they can afford to be in school.
Actually if you listen to him carefully it does make sense too. There are people who dropped out college and are very successful in their lives, For example, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs. There are good numbers of careers where degree is not a main factor; all that matters is your hard work and experience. There are different ways to educated yourself rather than college. There are many unemployed people who attended college and think all the investment they did in their study was in vain.
One major aspect of this ideal economy is that it reevaluates the education system and trains laborers more efficiently. It responds to the terribly expensive college education in the 1887, which divided the labor force and limited job opportunities. In the novel, Dr. Leete explains “it was not college education but college dissipation and extravagance which was expensive” to which Bellamy replies many “could [not] afford the loss of time from industrial pursuits”(105) meaning many found it more prosperous to start work at a younger age than to finish their schooling. In 1887, “boys of the poorer classes usually went to work at sixteen or younger and knew their trade at twenty”, therefore extra education, especially college, was not thought necessary (106). Because of this, those less educated had less opportunity to get higher wages and work their way up in the labor force.
