The University of La Verne’s core values have been present in my life throughout the years. Even though my mother wanted to attend college as I did, she didn’t have the option to so and that’s why she encourages me to try my hardest in school. When my mother was young, she dreamed of attending college in the United States and getting a job so she could support her family, whereas when I was small, I didn’t think school was important. Although my mother only attended elementary school, school was one of her top priorities because she felt like it was an honor to go to school, and if you went to school, you were considered to be lucky. My mother was an over-achiever and saw education as a way of showing that she was better than most.

I got tired trying to found a decent job, I wanted my daughters to follow in myself steps and go to college. I learned that most jobs are looking for some kind of college degree. I have been out of school for awhile and so I was a little nervous but after getting started I feel more comfortable with going to school. I want my daughters to always know that you can never get to old to learn new things.
These courses are useless unless you're going to major in one of those subjects, but most of us aren't. So then why are they offered to us? I don't know, but it is a waste of time. Instead of memorizing information only to have it regurgitated back to the teacher, we should be spending time learning practical life lessons. Courses like home economics, entrepreneurship ,and accounting should be mandatory.
Pursuit of Education: A Lifetime Development As a high school student sitting in a class waiting for the teacher to pass back my test we took last week, I start thinking do I really need this class to better myself for the near future? I try to think how this class will benefit me later. Well, I know I need it as a credit to graduate high school and I know I need it to for college, but what does this class have to afford me if I don’t go to college and step into the real world now. In my head, I can hear my mom saying “Boy, you going to college!” but then I ask myself why do I need to go to college? And the number one answer I could think of right off the back was to make that money.
Freedom is the main difference between high school and college but, classes, teachers, social aspects and costs are the major ways that college differs from high school. In high school, your teachers tell you what to do and how to act in school but, at home you have your parents who generally make sure that you did your homework and studied for tests. Your time was pretty much managed for you. In college you are on your own, being responsible is just one of the many qualities a student should have to maintain progress. For example, many of us weren’t really use to studying during high school, mainly because it was so unchallenging. But through college you are going to have to make some changes in your life. You are going to take those classes that require memorizing long formulas and theories, and that will take more of your time. During the process of college you are going to have to learn how to take care of yourself regardless of your parent’s being there for you or not. Responsibility will play a big role during this time of your life.

In order to achieve this, a person must graduate high school and college. Many people seem to think life as a high school student and a college student are very similar, but to me they have many differences. When I graduated high school, I decided that I would go to college and I became very aware of not only the differences, but the similarities as well. A couple of the things I noticed were the differences in the scheduling and rules and attitudes, responsibility on my part, and the work load.
First of all, I am in light that colleges and universities should be preparing students for the workforce. This is because, character building education and life skills, should be taught at an early stage of education, which is the school. In colleges and universities, the students have become young adults and develop their own way of thinking. Cutting down on your expenses doesn’t mean you have to become parsimonious, it simply means that you stop running behind all the things money can buy and instead enjoy the things in life money can’t buy like spending time with friends and family, making memories and being content. 5.
