Japan’s Fuji & Marine Insurance Company The current organizational structure at Japan’s Fuji & Marine Insurance Company is a functional organization. In this corporation people with similar occupational specialties are put together in a formal group to establish efficiency. For example, Katisuhiko Saka is the head of the Fuji Claims department, and Bijan khosrowshahi is the chief executive. The work is broken down, because the organization is vast. Khosrowshahi, desires a strong culture. He thrives to make business conduct very clear and easy to understand for the employees. He spends a considerable amount of time with employees trying to communicate and strengthen values. He even got a translator and asked the Executives to translate meetings for him into English, and kept persuading the managers to have meetings with presentations. Also, he takes very careful considerations, and tries to find employees that “fit” perfectly in the company. He is very big on staffing with diversity, and tried hard to find the right female candidate that will fit in the company. Most importantly he tries to define his values for the employees. Mr.Khosrowshashi, is interested in creating a mechanistic organization. He believes in having a centralized authority, and he specifies the tasks and the rules of the organization to the employees. He also works closely with the employees, and personally supervises them. For example, he worked on boosting morale, scheduling lunches with employees, and launching a training program with Tokyo’s Hitotsubashi University. Also, “he grilled about 40 managers on the details of their job, discussing issues from reinsurance schemes to the chances of getting business from Toyota Motor Corp.” Therefore, you can see that the authority is centralized and the tasks and rules are clear.
