The Harlem Renaissance spanned from 1919 until the early or mid 1930s. It was the start of African American culture, art, and centered in Harlem in New York City. As a literary movement it had a significant impact on black literature and consciousness worldwide. The Harlem Renaissance succeeded in destroying some racist stereotypes through brilliant works in song, dance, paint and print. A lot of today’s music were all made and based off old slave songs. 2. Nativism Nativism is an opposition to immigration which originated in United States politics. Nativism distinguishes Americans who were born in the United States, and individuals who have immigrated. Scopes and knows as the Scopes Monkey Trial. It was an American legal case in 1925 when a high school biology teacher was blamed for violating the state’s Butler Act. The Butler Act made it that you weren’t able to teach evolution in school at all. Scopes was found guilty, but the verdict was overturned on a technicality and he was never brought back to trial. The trial was thus both a theological contest, and a trial on the veracity of modern science regarding the creation of evolution controversy.
