To whom it may concern, I am writing to you today to talk about the five levels of the IT-enabled business strategy. These levels are efficient use of IT, Effective integration of IT, Alteration of business methodology, Alteration of business network, and Change of business direction. Efficient use of IT is the first level of integration. In this level the efficiency of one localized area within the business is improved. IT is used in the most basic, reliable and cost-effective way. At the first level, IT in not used to its full potential and the wider benefits IT could bring to the organization are not yet considered. Effective integration of IT is the second level of integration. At this level the whole organization starts to benefit from IT as attempts are made to integrate IT throughout the organization on two levels. At this level, different IT systems and applications become interconnected and a cross-functional approach to business processes is taken. The third level of integration is alteration of business methodology. At this level the organization starts altering their business methodologies to take advantage of IT. The company will reorganize themselves around emerging IT capabilities and rethink how they do business. They will make better use of IT and enable themselves to operate more efficiently. The fourth level of integration is alteration of business network. In this level IT is transformed by the way business is conducted among the participants of the entire business network. as inter-company networks and electronic data interchange, promote inter-organizational integration. Organizations tart becoming more effective and can respond more quickly to customer needs and start eliminating some activities enabling them to focus.
