How communication is so important in a health and social care environment Communication is vital when working in a health and social care environment, verbally or non- verbally. It is needed so that the carer (nurse, social worker) can give the best possible support or help to the patient. Good communication skills can gain positive relationships and also put the patient at ease as they will feel they can start to trust you which help them to relax and communicate back with you. This can then help to get a bigger picture of the patient's background and enable you to understand their needs. Sometimes it may not be as simple as just talking to a patient, it maybe there deaf or blind, if this was to be the case it is very important for to you finds the right way to communicate with them, for simple reasons such as an emergency.

Communication can be verbal or non-verbal, in this assignment I’m going to identify a range of contexts where communication is essential. One to one communication is two people commuting, this can be formal, informal, by email, etc. For example a care worker must be formal to a patient, but when they get to know them very well, it can turn into informal communication. One to one communication is only effective when listening skills, questioning skills and information-giving skills are present.

The first thing you need to do to ensure effective communication is to use key words. The second thing is to ask clarifying question that try to find out the other persons true meaning. Residential care homes may are not always a permanent fixture for young people but rather staff will either try and reunite service users with their families if and when it is acceptable or to look at foster/adoption opportunities on behalf of the individual. These homes will have a supportive team who will make sure that the needs children such as to be fed, clothes and granted an education will be met. Day Care Day care centres are where individuals can spend a few hours a week. Day care be used by both young and old people. Examples of what Day care centres offer include activities to improve personal skills, social groups, tea parties and also free nutritious meals.

Another way to put this is by learning about the argyle communication cycle, The argyle communication cycle has six steps: 1.Idea occurs (so you might want to talk to a resident about their care plan). 2.The message is coded (which basically means how you are going to send the message across, so if a resident is of certain age you need to think about the speed, Tone and pitch and how you speak to them you also should think about how you are going to deliver it). 3.Message sent. 4.Message is received (the resident knows that you are communicating with them and receives the message).
Helping them improve the skills this could be through communication for example being able to understand situations and resolve differences which will build trust. When I say judge (How much a person has learnt), this can be done by assessing the progress they have made from the previous week this could be something as minor as holding conversations in the team with people they would not normally talk to. Explain how communication affects relationships in the work setting : In care home setting communication occurs with the service users and their fammilies, the management and the directors, the working staff in the home and with outside professionals and visitors. Effective communication is vital for the support worker. The service user and the support worker need to understand each other clearly in order for the service user to receive the best possible care. Successful communication involves the support worker speaking clearly and using phrases and sentences that service users can understand. This also involves the support worker communicating clearly and openly with other members of staff, the manager and other professionals so as to make sure that the best possible care is provided and that this is done so reliably.
The overall goal is for the client to return to pre-hospital living condition in an improved state of wellness. The theory of self-efficacy is based on the belief that what people think, believe, and feel affects how they behave. So, if the patient is taught to believe that they can take care of themselves and actually practice how to do it will help in maintaining good health. Nursing diagnosis: Anxiety and fear related to new diagnosis, lack of understanding of medical condition and disease process. The patient needs to understand his new medical condition in order to gain understanding of the disease process, signs and symptoms, complications, medication regimen, follow-up appointment as well as the benefits of physical activity, diet and weight control.
